In 1983, Leonard built a secret bunker in the hills of California to imprison women as sex slaves and record his twisted “philosophy tape,” which began as a doomsday/survivalist manifesto and eventually spiraled into videotaped kidnappings, assaults, and murders. Alongside fugitive ex-Marine Charles Ng, Leonard Lake unleashed a reign of terror that claimed between 11 and 25 lives, including men, women, and children - some of whose final moments were immortalized on tape.
