EP189: You can honor yourself without making others wrong
from Inner badass reborn Hosted by Dana Donnelly
ou Can Honor Yourself Without Making Others Wrong What am I no longer willing to tolerate? What if choosing yourself didn’t mean making someone else the bad guy? We’ve all been there. We want to be respected, heard, and valued, but sometimes we struggle to communicate what we need without feeling guilty, becoming defensive, or expecting other people to see things our way. And sometimes, in the name of protecting our peace, we forget that other people are allowed to have their own opinions, values, needs, and boundaries, too. In this episode of Inner Badass Reborn, we’re talking about what it really means to honor yourself without disrespecting the people around you. Because boundaries aren’t about controlling other people’s behavior. They’re about getting clear on what matters to you, communicating your needs assertively, and deciding what you’re willing to participate in moving forward. We’ll explore the difference between boundaries and control, how to stand up for yourself without bulldozing others, and why someone disagreeing with you doesn’t automatically mean they’re disrespecting you. From friendships and family dynamics to romantic relationships, work, and the relationship you have with yourself, this conversation is about learning to stop abandoning yourself without expecting everyone else to change who they are to make you comfortable. In this episode, we’re talking about: The difference between honoring your values and forcing them on others. How to set boundaries without aggression, guilt, or unnecessary conflict. Why assertive communication matters more than expecting people to read your mind. How to respect someone else’s perspective without compromising your own. What to do when someone doesn’t agree with or respect your boundaries. How to stop people-pleasing without becoming dismissive of other people’s needs. Why you can love someone, disagree with them, and still choose what is right for you. Here’s your reminder: You don’t have to win every argument, convince everyone to understand you, or make someone else wrong to make a different choice for yourself. You can be compassionate and still say no. You can be firm without being disrespectful. You can take accountability for how you communicate without taking responsibility for everyone else’s feelings. And you can stop abandoning yourself without asking everyone else to abandon themselves, too. Your reflection for this week: Where in your life do you need to honor yourself more, and how can you communicate that need while still respecting the other person? As always, have a great fucking day and remember you are entirely up to you.
