Vincent van Gogh. Everyone knows the name. But how many people truly know the man? He sold only one painting in his lifetime, died in poverty at thirty-seven, and is often remembered as little more than a troubled genius who cut off his ear. But if that is all you know about van Gogh, you are missing the most extraordinary part of the story. In this episode, Jenny takes you inside the real van Gogh through his own words. More than six hundred letters between Vincent and his brother Theo have survived, and they reveal a man of remarkable intellectual depth. He read Zola, Dickens, and Tolstoy. He studied color theory with scientific rigor. He wrote passionately about social justice, Japanese art, and the nature of beauty. Van Gogh was not simply painting. He was translating the full weight of human feeling into color and light. From his failed years as a preacher in the Belgian coal mines, to the Yellow House in Arles, to Starry Night painted inside an asylum, this episode traces the full arc of his extraordinary and heartbreaking life. What drives a person to keep creating when the world refuses to notice? Van Gogh once wrote that he dreamed of being a painter who could make people feel warmth. Over a century later, millions still stand before his paintings and feel exactly that.
