Steve Biko said the most powerful weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. What that says is that a system's most effective method of oppression is not making you obey through force — it is making you believe you were always meant to be oppressed, making you internalize that oppression into how you see yourself. Born in the Eastern Cape of South Africa in 1946, he helped found the South African Students Organisation in 1968, driving what became the Black Consciousness Movement. That movement said Black people must first liberate themselves psychologically before they can fight for political liberation. From 1973 he was banned from public speaking and media contact — but he continued to write and to think. In 1977 he was arrested for the fourth time. He was severely beaten in detention and died on September 12th at the age of thirty. His death sent enormous ripples across South Africa and around the world, and he became one of the most important symbols of the anti-apartheid movement. Powered by Firstory Hosting

In 1963, Kenzaburo Oe's son Hikari was born with an incompletely closed skull. Doctors said even with surgery, the child would likely have severe disabilities for life. He chose to let the child live. That choice changed everything. Hikari became a composer whose works are performed in Japanese concert halls. He also became one of his father's most important teachers: Hikari heard a world his father could not — a world where the call of a bird was already music waiting to be played. When he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1994, he described himself as an ambiguous Japanese. He said that state of being unable to find a clear position between tradition and modernity, between East and West, was not weakness — it was the engine of his writing. Powered by Firstory Hosting

In nineteen eighty five, at just thirty years old, Steve Jobs was pushed out of the very company he founded. This episode dives into Steve Jobs, the biography written by Walter Isaacson, a book Jobs himself insisted should not soften who he really was. We talk about why he was pushed out of Apple, what he built during the twelve years that followed, and one uncomfortable truth, that his cruelty and his greatness may have been two sides of the exact same trait. This time, Jenny chooses to say the most uncomfortable, and most honest, parts of this book, directly. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Every day we say things like what time is it right now, but we never stop to question whether now is actually a fact shared by everyone. In this episode, Jenny explores The Fabric of the Cosmos by physicist Brian Greene. Starting with a strange thought experiment involving the Andromeda galaxy, she walks through why the present moment might not be a river flowing forward, but a line drawn by your own position and speed. Why does time feel like it is moving at all? The answer has to do with entropy, memory, and everything we have always taken for granted. This episode also includes the part Jenny cannot fully agree with. Physics may call time an illusion, but the weight of being alive inside it is not. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, opened a tiny cosmetics shop in Brighton, England in 1976 with very little money and handwritten labels on her bottles. She said what the ingredients were, where they came from, that she did not test on animals, and that she supported fair trade. Some said it was all marketing gimmicks. Some said the shop would not last long. Forty years later the brand had over two thousand global locations. She used one shop to prove that a business can have a position, values, and things to say while also making money. She once said that if you think being an entrepreneur and running an ethical business are contradictory, you have completely misunderstood what business is. In today's Thinker J, we step into the story of the woman who used a cosmetics shop as her voice. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Epicurus has been misunderstood for two thousand years. His name became almost synonymous with indulgence and excess. But what he actually described as the highest happiness was a quiet garden, a few true friends, a bowl of water and a piece of bread. He welcomed women, enslaved people, and foreigners into his school — a radical act in ancient Greek society. His question was simple: in a world of constant change, how should I live? His answer pointed not toward acquiring more, but toward reducing what disturbs the mind: unnecessary desires, the fear of punishment, and above all, the fear of death. His argument about death became one of philosophy's most famous sentences: when we exist, death is not present; when death arrives, we are no longer here. Therefore death is never an experience we actually have. In this episode, Jenny explores why this ancient philosopher, so long misread, may offer the clearest guidance of any thinker for navigating the anxiety of modern life. Powered by Firstory Hosting

If you were born into upper class British society, would you give up marriage and social life to take up what was considered, at the time, one of the lowest status jobs available? Florence Nightingale did exactly that. Born in 1820 in Florence, Italy, into a wealthy family, Nightingale received an outstanding education from a young age, but at seventeen she felt a calling to serve. Despite fierce opposition from her family, she insisted on traveling to Germany to receive formal nursing training. When the Crimean War broke out in 1854, Nightingale led thirty eight nurses to the military hospital at Scutari in Turkey, launching a sweeping sanitary reform that brought the death rate down from over forty percent to under three percent. After the war ended, she did not stop there. She invented an entirely new statistical chart, later known as the rose diagram, using visual design to help the government and even the Queen understand that disease killed far more soldiers than combat did. In 1859 she became the first female member of the Royal Statistical Society. In 1860 she founded the Nightingale Training School, formally establishing nursing as a profession. In her later years she was confined to bed for decades, yet never stopped writing or pushing for reform, until her death in 1910 at the age of ninety. Today on Thinker J, we walk through the story of a woman who changed the world with data. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Gustav Mahler said he was homeless in three ways — a Bohemian among Austrians, an Austrian among Germans, a Jew throughout the world. That feeling of never quite belonging anywhere entered everything he composed. He was one of the greatest conductors in Vienna, but his compositions were almost universally misunderstood. He said: my time will come. And he kept writing. In 1907 nearly everything fell apart at once: his eldest daughter died, his marriage fractured, and he was diagnosed with heart disease. He went to America. He kept working. And he wrote his Ninth Symphony — music that knows it is a farewell. He died at fifty. His symphonies were not recognized as masterworks until decades after his death. In this episode, Jenny explores what Mahler teaches us about carrying contradictions, creating ahead of your time, and making something beautiful out of the act of letting go. Powered by Firstory Hosting

In 1981, Yohji Yamamoto walked into Paris Fashion Week with a collection of black, torn, asymmetrical garments. Some called it cockroach fashion. Some called it a revolution. He said he did not care either way. What he made was not meant to be accepted by the system. It was meant to express what he genuinely saw. He said black is both humble and arrogant, because it explains nothing. He said clothing is not a display platform but a shelter. He said if you start designing for the market, you have already lost. In today's Thinker J, we step into the world of this Japanese designer, and discover the power of finding beauty in imperfection, and the rare discipline of only making what you truly believe in. Powered by Firstory Hosting

In nineteen seventy two, a question asked on a beach in New Guinea led Jared Diamond to spend twenty five years writing this book. Guns, Germs, and Steel argues that history was never decided by intelligence, but by whether the land beneath a people's feet could grow the right plants and support the right animals. In this episode, Jenny shares what she truly agrees with, what she does not fully agree with, and reflects on the island of Taiwan as a real world test of the book's biggest claim.
In this episode we talk about Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. One person alone would lose a fight against a chimpanzee. But a hundred humans will almost always beat a hundred chimpanzees. The difference is not strength and it is not intelligence. It comes from something called the cognitive revolution, a shift that happened around seventy thousand years ago. It gave humans an ability no other animal has, the ability to believe together in things that do not physically exist. Money, nations, religions, corporations, and human rights are all stories that became real because enough people agreed to believe in them. That same power built the pyramids, and that same power built concentration camps. One ability, capable of civilization's greatest achievements and its darkest atrocities. In this episode I share what I genuinely agree with in this book, and I also share where I push back against Harari's argument. At the end I leave you with one question. Which of the rules you treat as absolute truth is actually just a story that enough people agreed to believe. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Bruce Lee died at thirty-two, yet what he accomplished in that time changed the world in ways that are still felt today. He did not just bring martial arts to Hollywood. He shattered every assumption about what an Asian man could be on screen. He studied philosophy, absorbed Taoism and Zen, and folded everything into both his martial art and his way of thinking. Be water, my friend was not a movie line. It was something he genuinely believed. In this episode of Thinker J, we step into Bruce Lee's world, not just to watch how he fought, but to understand how he thought, and how he faced every door that someone told him could not be opened. Jeet Kune Do, Be Water, Powered by Firstory Hosting

If you have watched videos on the internet with calming music and scenery and a wise voice speaking over them, you have very likely already heard Alan Watts without knowing it. Born in England in 1915, Alan Watts became one of the most important bridges between Eastern and Western philosophy in the twentieth century. He brought Zen, Buddhism, and Taoism into the everyday language of people in the West, not through academic papers, but through conversations that felt like sharing tea with a thoughtful friend. He said you didn't come into this world, you came out of it. He said the tighter you grip at certainty, the faster it slips away. He said the present moment is not a corridor to the future; it is the destination itself. In today's Thinker J, we explore the life and ideas of the man who helped people decades ago, and people today, find a quiet corner and breathe again. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Henri Cartier-Bresson, the French photographer and co-founder of Magnum Photos, is one of the founding figures of modern photojournalism. He created the concept of The Decisive Moment: within the flow of life, there is a single instant when all elements reach their ideal balance, and once it passes it is gone forever. The photographer's art is to recognize and capture that instant. He said photography is placing the mind, the eye, and the heart on the same line of sight at the same time. His photographs make you feel present, as if the moment has not yet passed. He traveled the world, documenting some of the most important moments of the twentieth century, and countless moments of everyday life.
Billie Holiday, known as Lady Day, is widely regarded as one of the most influential singers in jazz history. But her influence came not just from the beauty of her voice, but from what she chose to say with it. In 1939, she first performed Strange Fruit at Cafe Society, speaking aloud in a darkened room what an entire era dared not say openly. She did not have textbook-perfect technique, yet she had an ability that no one could quite teach or learn: the power to make every listener feel she was speaking directly to them. Frank Sinatra said she influenced him more than anyone else. Ella Fitzgerald said she had something that could not be learned. In today's Thinker J, we step into this woman's musical world, witness her choices, and feel the enduring power of a voice that chose to stand where it stood. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Sen no Rikyu, the man who completed the Japanese way of tea in the sixteenth century, used a room barely two tatami mats in size to articulate an entire philosophy of beauty. He reduced the tea room to its smallest possible form, designed the entrance so low that everyone had to bow to enter, asked samurai to leave their swords outside, and required lords and commoners to cross the threshold in the same humble posture. He replaced prized Chinese porcelain with crooked, irregular Japanese pottery, saying the imperfections were precisely where the beauty lay. He established the aesthetic of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in imperfection and depth in transience. Ichigo ichie: every encounter is the only one of its kind in a lifetime. In today's Thinker J, we step into that space of one and a half tatami mats, and discover how Sen no Rikyu, with the least possible amount, said the most possible things. Powered by Firstory Hosting

At twenty one, Stephen Hawking was told he had two years left to live. He lived more than fifty, using only the muscles he had left to explain the secrets of the universe to the entire world. This episode, Jenny is talking about his most famous book, A Brief History of Time. We grow up believing time treats everyone fairly, and that every event must have a cause, an earlier answer waiting somewhere further back. Hawking suggests something different. The universe's time may have had a beginning, and asking what came before it may be a question shaped exactly like asking what lies north of the North Pole. Not unanswered. Simply asked in a direction that was never going to lead anywhere. In this episode, Jenny shares what she truly agrees with, and just as importantly, where she does not fully agree, including how this single idea helped her finally let go of a question that had trapped her for years. If there is a question you have been circling for a long time without ever finding your way to an answer, this episode might offer you a new direction to look in. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Have you ever wondered what happens to a person who always puts others first. In this episode, Jenny talks about Give and Take by Adam Grant. Over more than a decade of research tracking thousands of careers, Grant discovered something unsettling, generous people often show up at the very bottom of the success ladder and at the very top at the same time. The difference is never whether someone gives, it is how they give. Jenny shares what she truly agrees with, where she pushes back, and the exact moment she met this idea in her own life while building this very show. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Zheng Banqiao wrote four Chinese characters that ended up on walls, coffee mugs, and embroidered gifts across generations. But almost everyone who quotes them misunderstands what he meant. Nan De Hu Tu is often translated as it is rare to be wisely confused. He did not mean real confusion. He meant something far more demanding: seeing everything clearly, and choosing not to get tangled up in all of it. Knowing what the other person is calculating and deciding to move forward anyway. Choosing not to exhaust yourself chasing answers that do not exist. Zheng Banqiao served as a county magistrate in Shandong during the Qing dynasty. When drought struck and people were starving, he opened the government granaries himself without waiting for official approval. He refused all gifts during his years in office. He painted bamboo not for its beauty but for what it represented: humility, integrity, and perseverance through every storm. He eventually resigned rather than accept a promotion that would take him away from the people he served. His calligraphy mixed five different classical scripts into something entirely his own. When scholars told him this was improper, he said yes, exactly, that is the point. In this episode we tell the full story of Zheng Banqiao. A man who knew what he wanted, knew what was not worth wanting, and left us the most misunderstood piece of wisdom in Chinese culture. J, Thinker J, Zheng Banqiao, Chinese art, calligraphy, wisdom, integrity, Chinese history, Qing dynasty Powered by Firstory Hosting

Maria Montessori was Italy's first female doctor. Her story began in a single classroom in a Roman slum and eventually reached the entire world. She watched a three-year-old child picking up breadcrumbs from the floor. Not out of hunger, but because his hands needed to work and his mind was searching for something to engage with. She did not see limitation. She saw a learning instinct trapped in the wrong environment. From that observation, she built a complete educational approach that turned the assumptions of her era upside down. Mixed-age classrooms. Prepared environments. Freedom of choice. Self-correction built into the materials. She said children are not empty containers to be filled; they are explorers who need the right space and the freedom to move through it. Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia all grew up in Montessori environments. Today over twenty thousand Montessori schools in more than one hundred and forty countries practice her ideas. In this episode we tell the full story of Maria Montessori. The woman who did not wait for permission.
Joseph Campbell spent five years in a small California town with no income and no academic position, reading for nine hours a day. Out of that solitude came one of the most influential ideas in modern storytelling: the Hero's Journey. He discovered that beneath all the world's myths, from ancient Greece to India to Japan to the Norse traditions, there is the same story. A hero leaves the familiar world, enters the unknown, faces trials that are ultimately internal as much as external, and returns transformed, bringing something back. George Lucas said publicly that without Joseph Campbell there would have been no Star Wars. Pixar's creative leadership cites the Hero's Journey as central to their storytelling. The stories you love, the ones that moved you most deeply, touched you because they followed a pattern your soul already recognized. Campbell said follow your bliss. Not pleasure, not comfort, but the thing that makes you feel completely real and alive. He said life has no meaning handed to you from outside. You bring the meaning. You are the author of your own story. In this episode we tell the full story of Joseph Campbell. The man who gave Lucas and Pixar and all storytellers a deeper foundation. And who gave each of us a map for understanding our own journeys. J, Thinker J, mythology, storytelling, comparative religion, follow your bliss, monomyth Powered by Firstory Hosting

Zhuangzi lived over two thousand years ago in ancient China. But his words feel like they were written for today. He asked the most beautiful question in philosophy using a butterfly: are you Zhuang Zhou dreaming you are a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming you are Zhuang Zhou? He told the story of Cook Ding, whose blade never dulled because he moved with the natural grain of things rather than against it. He described the great bird Peng soaring to the southern sea, and used a tiny laughing bird to ask us: have you mistaken your small world for the whole world? Zhuangzi refused the position of prime minister, choosing simplicity and inner freedom over power. He developed the concept of xiaoyao you, free and easy wandering, as the highest expression of human flourishing. His philosophy of wu wei, moving without forcing, has influenced Chinese painting, poetry, Chan Buddhism, and two millennia of thinkers who needed a foundation of inner freedom. In this episode we tell the full story of Zhuangzi.
Carl Sagan said something that many people call the most beautiful sentence in the history of science: we are all made of star stuff. He was not being poetic. He was stating a fact. The iron in your blood was forged in the core of a dying star billions of years ago. That star exploded, scattering those elements through space. Over billions of years, they gathered, formed planets, formed oceans, formed life, and eventually became you. Sagan was an astronomer, Cornell professor, NASA advisor, and Pulitzer Prize winner. But what five hundred million people remember is the television series Cosmos, which he created in 1980. It aired in sixty countries and is still one of the most widely watched public television programs ever made. He made people who never read a science book genuinely curious about the universe. He also proposed that the Voyager 1 spacecraft turn around before leaving the solar system and photograph Earth from six billion kilometers away. Earth appeared as a barely visible dot, 0.12 pixels, suspended in a sunbeam. He wrote a reflection on that image called the Pale Blue Dot, which remains one of the most moving pieces of scientific writing ever produced. He spent his life fighting pseudoscience and misinformation, and wrote The Demon-Haunted World to give ordinary people the tools of critical thinking. In today's world, his message has never been more needed. In this episode we tell the full story of Carl Sagan.
Every year, West Point loses nearly ten percent of new cadets within the first seven weeks. The military's decades old evaluation system could not predict who would quit, but a twelve question survey could. Its author, Angela Duckworth, once worked as a McKinsey consultant before leaving to teach seventh grade math, where she discovered that achievement is driven less by talent and more by a psychological structure that can be built. In this episode, Jenny breaks down the grit formula and shares the part of the book she cannot fully agree with: that holding on until the end is not always the right choice. You will hear how effort gets counted twice in the achievement equation, and how interest, practice, purpose, and hope determine whether someone makes it to the finish line.
When is the last time you saw something genuinely new. Not a better version. Not an upgrade. Something that made you stop and say nothing for a moment. Zero to One is the framework of Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and the first outside investor in Facebook. He says there are two kinds of progress in the world. One goes from one to N. Better. Faster. Cheaper. That is what ninety-nine percent of all business does. The other kind goes from zero to one. Creating something that did not exist before. His most confronting idea. Competition is for losers. The real winners are not competing with anyone. Because they are doing something no one else has done yet. Thiel says every great company is built on a secret. Something the founder believes is true that most people do not yet agree with. PayPal. Facebook. Airbnb. All built on human nature secrets hiding in plain sight. In this episode, Jenny digs into his core framework and also names where she genuinely disagrees. This is Silicon Valley thinking. For most solo builders and small creators, the scale needs to be adjusted. But the orientation, she thinks, is exactly right. Episode six. Zero to One. Powered by Firstory Hosting

She made a steel spider over nine meters tall and placed it in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern in London. She called it Maman. Mother. Louise Bourgeois had a childhood with a secret: her father brought his mistress into the family home and expected everyone to accept it. This arrangement lasted nearly ten years. Her mother stayed silent. Her mother died when Louise was twenty-one. She turned all of it into art. She made enclosed installations called Cells, filled with objects that held memories. She made sculptures dealing directly with the female body. At seventy-one she had a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. At seventy-five the world finally saw her clearly. She did not care either way. She said she had been working all along.
Can video games be considered art? This question has been debated for three decades. And that conversation is nearly impossible to have without mentioning Hideo Kojima. Born in Tokyo in 1963, he lost his father at a young age and grew up with films and novels as his primary companions. He joined Konami in 1986, created the stealth game genre with Metal Gear in 1987, and in 1998 Metal Gear Solid showed a global audience that video games could tell genuinely profound stories. In 2015, at nearly fifty years old, he left the company he had worked at for nearly three decades and founded his own studio. In 2019, Death Stranding used the premise of a courier delivering packages in a collapsed civilization to ask some of the deepest questions about human connection. Today on Thinker J, we talk about the man who turned a video game into something worth thinking about. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Some people live lives more extraordinary than any movie script. Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of those people. Born in a tiny Austrian village of just a few hundred residents, raised in poverty with a strict father, this young man decided at fifteen that he would not accept any limits others tried to place on him. At twenty he became the youngest Mr. Olympia in history, the highest honor in bodybuilding, a title he would win seven times in total, a record that still stands today. He immigrated to America with a thick accent and almost no English, was laughed at by nearly everyone in Hollywood, and yet went on to become the biggest action movie star in the world through the film called The Terminator, eventually earning 30 million dollars per film at his peak. And then he did something everyone said was impossible: with no political background whatsoever, he was elected Governor of California, where he signed the first state-level greenhouse gas emissions law in American history. Three completely different worlds. He reached the top of all three. This is not a story about talent. This is a story about will. In this episode we dive deep into Arnold's childhood, his bodybuilding legend, his Hollywood years, his political career, and how he faced the lowest point of his life. His six principles for success sound simple. But very few people actually live by them. As Arnold says: the only limits that exist are the ones in your mind. From a woman who studied atoms in a research lab, to a leader who steadied an entire continent with her signature diamond hand gesture. We explore how she rose to power during a major party scandal. How she protected Germany through the global financial crisis. How she made a decision on refugees that shocked the world. How she navigated the complexities of dealing with Putin. How she held her ground against Trumps very public provocations. And what kind of legacy she left behind. She once said her guiding philosophy was never about changing the world.
What if the secret behind humanity's dominance on Earth is not our strength or our intelligence, but our ability to believe in shared fictional stories. Yuval Noah Harari is an Israeli historian who started out studying medieval military history at Oxford, and ended up writing a book that sold more than 25 million copies and changed the way people around the world think about what it means to be human. Barack Obama named it among his favorites. Bill Gates read it multiple times. Mark Zuckerberg added it to his annual reading list. But Harari did not stop there. In his second book, Homo Deus, he warned about a future where inequality is no longer just about wealth, but about biological and cognitive capability. In his third book, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, he tackled the burning questions of the present moment, from the rise of AI to the fragility of democratic institutions. And in his most recent work, Nexus, he argues that AI is transforming information networks in ways humanity may not have the wisdom to manage. In this episode, Jenny takes you deep into the life and ideas of one of the most influential thinkers of our time. We explore his radical skepticism about free will, his decades-long Vipassana meditation practice, his warnings about AI manipulation of the human mind, and why he believes the greatest political threat of the twenty-first century is not war, but the erosion of our capacity to think independently.
Jiang Yuan, a legendary quantitative trader in a futuristic world, is imprisoned in a luxury penthouse in Taipei Xinyi District by a high dimensional civilization. This confinement is no ordinary three dimensional room but a complex five dimensional time matrix designed to trap him in an infinite loop. While every day seems identical to the naked eye, Jiang Yuans heightened awareness observes a non linear drift in the absolute coordinates of individual raindrops leaking into his cell. Realizing that the universe is governed by the ancient principles of the I Ching, where change is constant but encapsulated within an invariant seasonal order, he begins to scratch binary yin and yang codes onto the metallic floor. When the high dimensional supervisor, E Lai, unleashes random chaotic noise through space time anchoring crystals, Jiang Yuan counters by deploying a Tai Chi integration algorithm that coalesces the shattered coordinate micro slices back into a unified macro whole. Even when forced to consume a soul formatting memory wiping toxin, Jiang Yuan maintains his absolute inner stillness. He experiences the ultimate human agony but quantumly reorganizes the toxic code inside his system, transforming the perilous Kan hexagram into the resilient Jie hexagram. Pushing his silver Mac mini hardware weaponized with the ultimate universal source code, Jiang Yuan steps into a golden quantum singularity, initiating a cross dimensional escape that triggers a massive algorithmic collapse across the entire high dimensional financial empire. Powered by Firstory Hosting

A clap of thunder echoes as torrential rain falls. Imprisoned in the dark cells of Youli, King Wen of Zhou, Ji Chang, holds the raindrops and unravels the ultimate truth of the cosmos. While the changing seasons follow an immutable order—The Constant (Bu Yi)—each individual raindrop occupies a completely unique "Absolute Coordinate" in the expanding universe—The Variable (Bian Yi). This is no ordinary dungeon, but a five-dimensional time labyrinth engineered by King Zhou's high-dimensional mystics. Using binary Yin and Yang lines, Ji Chang decodes the universe into The Simple (Jian Yi). When his eldest son, Bo Yikao, is brutally deconstructed into blood and flesh in Zaoge, Ji Chang endures the ultimate human agony, consuming the soup to integrate his son's quantum code into the Post-Heaven Bagua operating system. Joined by Jiang Ziya at the Wei River—a master strategist armed with the Taiji algorithm—the Zhou Eastern Expedition evolves into a high-dimensional sci-fi cosmic war. Confronting cybernetic generals, Daji’s saturated 9D-Fox formatting deletion programs, and even the降維 (dimension-reducing) strike of the heavenly Sages, Ji Chang locks onto the unalterable "Present Moment." Through absolute coordinates and space-time weaving, they hack the cosmos. Nothing in this universe remains unchanged, and before the ultimate binary code of the I Ching, the dawn of Zhou cannot be erased. Powered by Firstory Hosting

What do you do when an injury at twenty forces you to abandon every plan you had? Michelle Yeoh found another road. Born in 1962 in Ipoh, Malaysia, she trained seriously in ballet from the age of four and enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dance in London at fifteen. Then a spinal injury stopped her before her career could begin. No one could have predicted where that detour would lead. She entered the entertainment industry through a beauty pageant, brought her dancer's discipline into Hong Kong action cinema, refused to use stunt doubles, and built a reputation through sequences of real physical risk. From Police Story 3: Supercop to Tomorrow Never Dies, from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to Crazy Rich Asians, she worked her way into global visibility. Then at sixty, Everything Everywhere All at Once made her the first Asian woman in 95 years of Oscar history to win Best Actress. Today on Thinker J, we walk through the story of a woman who spent decades making herself ready. Powered by Firstory Hosting

If you could only read one person to understand Silicon Valley startup culture, that person is probably Paul Graham. Born in England in 1964, Graham studied philosophy at Cornell, earned a PhD in computer science at Harvard, and studied painting at art school simultaneously. In 1995 he co-founded Viaweb, building one of the earliest cloud-based e-commerce platforms at a time when almost no one believed such a thing was viable. Three years later Yahoo acquired it for 49 million dollars. Then in 2005 he co-founded Y Combinator. He backed Airbnb before it had customers. He invested in Dropbox when it had only a demo. He was not reading business plans. He was reading founders. He has also written hundreds of essays that startup communities around the world treat as essential reading. On how to work. On wealth. On the value of ideas that seem absurd at first. Today on Thinker J, we talk about the man who changed how a generation of builders thinks. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Through the 1990s and 2000s, Chinese cities were expanding at a pace with no precedent in history. Villages were leveled. Historic buildings were demolished. Wang Shu said watching it felt like watching a great fire. He chose to bend down and pick up the pieces. When building the Ningbo History Museum, his team collected approximately six million old bricks and tiles from more than twenty villages in the surrounding region that were being or had already been demolished. Those pieces were set one by one into the museum's walls. The result was a surface that read like a history book written in brick. In 2012, Wang Shu received the Pritzker Architecture Prize, becoming the first Chinese architect to do so. The jury said his work raised essential questions about what modernity means and whether it must stand in opposition to tradition. Today on Thinker J, we follow the story of an architect who insisted on memory in an era of forgetting. Powered by Firstory Hosting

If there is one voice that has accompanied generations of people around the world in their understanding of this planet, it belongs to Sir David Attenborough. Born in London in 1926, he studied natural sciences at Cambridge, joined the BBC in 1952, and over the following decades transformed the way humanity sees the natural world. Life on Earth. The Blue Planet. Planet Earth. Our Planet. Each series pushed the boundaries of documentary filmmaking and deepened the human understanding of life on this planet. At ninety-three he stood at the United Nations Climate Action Summit. In his book he noted that in his own lifetime, the share of wild animals in global vertebrate biomass had fallen from 66 percent to 4 percent. He said he still had things to say. He said there were too many beautiful things that needed to be seen before they were gone.
Running a marathon in under two hours was debated in sports science for decades. Most researchers placed it at the edge of human physiological possibility. Then Eliud Kipchoge ran 42.195 kilometers in 1 hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds in Vienna in 2019. Born in 1984 in the highlands of western Kenya, Kipchoge ran barefoot on dirt roads to school as a child. He won the 5000 meters world championship at eighteen, then transitioned to the marathon and transformed the sport with a philosophy built on discipline, collective training, and a single sentence that changed how many people think: No human is limited. He has won multiple Olympic gold medals, broken the world record multiple times, and tends to speak after races not about results but about gratitude. Today on Thinker J, we are not just talking about how fast he runs. We are talking about how he uses running to think about life.
Have you ever wondered how history's greatest geniuses unlocked their ground-breaking inspirations? Nikola Tesla simulated flawless machinery in his mind without blueprints, August Kekulé discovered the benzene ring through a dream of a snake biting its tail, and Thomas Edison used his famous "steel ball method" to capture fleeting insights. Is this mere coincidence, or is there a hidden mechanism at play? In this video, we decode the "Universal Download Protocol" through the lens of cutting-edge physics and neuroscience. Moving past mystical assumptions, we dive into the hard science of the Zero-Point Field and holographic universe theory. Your brain is not a storage drive; it is a quantum resonant antenna designed to interface with a non-local field of infinite information. We break down the biological hardware inside you: how "Heart-Brain Coherence" synchronizes neural voltage, triggering the "piezoelectric effect" within the microcrystals of your pineal gland to open up a high-bandwidth connection to the universe. More importantly, we provide a practical, 3-step blueprint for daily life—including Coherence Breathing, Hypnagogic Dream Capture, and a Visualized Energy Recharging Technique. Stop burning out through sheer force of will. Learn how to align your frequency first, and turn your life into a seamless journey of flow and manifestation. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Why do 70% of lottery winners lose it all and end up worse off within 5 to 7 years? Is it just bad luck, or is there a scientific law behind the "curse of sudden wealth"? In this profound audio-visual journey, we decode the ultimate wealth source code by bridging cutting-edge quantum physics, neuroscience, and heart-brain coherence with the history of the world’s greatest financial masterminds: the Medici family of the European Renaissance and the legendary Shanxi Draft Banks of ancient China. Wealth is never just about numbers; it is the physical manifestation of collective trust. When sudden money hits a limited "spiritual container," the energy potential backfires, leading to self-destruction. In contrast, centuries-old dynasties survive wars and crashes because they mastered the algorithm of expanding their inner capacity to hold wealth. Discover how the Medicis transformed capital into spiritual assets through art, and how Shanxi merchants leveraged their revolutionary "partnership system" and Chinese cryptographic ciphers to build an unbreakable resonance of trust. We will guide you through 3 practical steps to expand your mind, erase your scarcity programming, and rewrite your brain's neural pathways with an unshakeable frequency of abundance. Powered by Firstory Hosting

She was beaten to the ground by police in Kenya. Her bones were broken. She spent time in the hospital. Then she came back. And kept planting trees. Wangari Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977. She taught rural women how to grow tree seedlings and plant them along fields, beside schools, along rivers. Through the simplest of actions she wove together environmental recovery, women's empowerment, and democratic resistance. She saved Nairobi's only public park. The government called her a crazy woman. She said the only thing she feared was doing nothing. In 2004 she became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. By the time of her death, the Green Belt Movement had planted more than fifty million trees across Africa.
If a doctor told you your child might never grow taller than one hundred fifty centimeters, would you imagine that child one day lifting the World Cup trophy? That is exactly how Lionel Messis story begins. Born in 1987 in Rosario, Argentina, Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency at age ten, and his family could not afford the expensive treatment. A contract written on a restaurant napkin saw Barcelona agree to cover his medical costs, bringing him to Spain to join the La Masia youth academy. Every night, the young Messi had to inject growth hormone into his own thigh, a routine that continued for years. At Barcelona, Messi became one of the greatest players in football history, winning the Ballon dOr eight times. Yet his journey with the Argentine national team proved far harder, and he even briefly announced his retirement from the team after facing years of doubt. Winning the 2021 Copa America ended Argentinas twenty eight year trophy drought. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, a thirty five year old Messi led his team to victory over France in what many call the greatest final in history, finally completing the one piece missing from his legendary career. Today on Thinker J, we step into those tears that took nearly twenty years to finally arrive. Powered by Firstory Hosting

If a woman completely transformed the way women around the world get dressed, yet also made choices during a certain period of her life that later generations find hard to forgive, how should we understand her? Coco Chanel is exactly this kind of figure who resists easy categorization. Born in 1883 in Saumur, France, she lost her mother at eleven and was sent to a convent orphanage. There she learned to sew, and absorbed an aesthetic of severe simplicity. From cabaret singer to mistress to the most powerful woman in Paris fashion, every step of Chanels rise came from her own judgment. Using once cheap jersey fabric, she let women walk and breathe freely without a corset for the first time. The little black dress, Chanel No 5, the tweed jacket, these classics still shape global fashion today, and all of them came from her hands. But during the war, she became involved with a Nazi intelligence officer, and even took part in a secret plan attempting to use her personal connection to Churchill to seek peace. After the war she was accused of collaboration, a chapter that remains controversial to this day. In 1954, at seventy one, she returned to the fashion world, moving from ridicule back to leading the industry, working right up until the final day of her life at eighty seven. Today on Thinker J, we look honestly at both the glory and the shadow of this woman. Powered by Firstory Hosting

She was called La Divina. The Divine One. Her voice spanned three full octaves and every character she sang felt like a living human being. Audiences at La Scala gave her twenty-minute standing ovations. Crowds in London waited for hours outside the stage door just to see her. But she also said something heartbreaking: first I lost my weight, then I lost my voice, and then I lost Onassis. Maria Callas built her entire identity around her voice. She sang through wartime occupation in Athens with no heat and almost no food. She refused the Metropolitan Opera rather than sing a translation. She walked away from the stage for a love that ultimately chose someone else. She died alone in a Paris apartment at fifty-three, found by her housekeeper. Today on Thinker J, we step into the story of a woman who built an entire world from her voice and could not find herself once the voice was gone. Powered by Firstory Hosting

He was banned by South Vietnam, rejected by North Vietnam, and exiled from his homeland for thirty-nine years. Martin Luther King Jr. nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, writing that he knew of no one more deserving. But he did not respond to the world's rejection with anger. In the south of France he built Plum Village, a practice community that has drawn hundreds of thousands of people from around the world. He brought American Vietnam veterans and Vietnamese refugees into the same circle and asked them to truly listen to one another. He wrote nearly one hundred books and brought the concept of mindfulness from Buddhist terminology into the center of modern psychology and therapy. Today on Thinker J, we follow the story of the Vietnamese monk who was refused by his own country for thirty-nine years and taught the world how to breathe. Powered by Firstory Hosting

In the dead of night in Lower Manhattan, the global energy futures market freezes into a eerie, deathly flatline. Lin Xun, the chief architect of Tianshu Capital, makes a terrifying discovery: the algorithm behind the mysterious trading seat LEDG seamlessly integrates the binary matrix of the I Ching's 64 hexagrams with quantum superposition. Any attempt to observe or trade will cause the market to collapse into a worst-case scenario. The mastermind behind this cosmic trap is none other than his former senior classmate, Chen Qian—a quantum physics prodigy. Chen Qian has deployed the "Tian Di Pi" (Stagnation) matrix, aiming to paralyze the global semiconductor supply chain into absolute uncertainty. With billions in long positions facing imminent liquidation, Lin Xun triggers the "Taiji No. 2 Protocol," forging a quantum entanglement network across New York, Hong Kong, and Taipei, forcibly reversing the opponent's observed reality at the final second! Yet, the financial storm was merely a decoy. The real Black Swan quantum virus has already breached physical reality through the microgrid. Returning to Tucheng, Taiwan, Lin Xun faces Chen Qian in an abandoned substation for the ultimate showdown. Confronting liquid nitrogen-cooled quantum hardware, Lin Xun uses a single porcelain teacup, scalding Oolong tea, and 1970s analog vacuum tubes to unleash an "analog chaos," manifesting the ancient wisdom of "Di Tian Tai" (Harmony). By driving the virtual quantum computation back into the earth, he shatters the stagnation and saves the world's tech supply chain. Powered by Firstory Hosting

This is an epic tech-business war where ancient wisdom clashes with trillion-dollar capital. Zhou Guangming, a firmware engineer in Hsinchu Science Park, loses everything overnight due to a brutal betrayal. In the darkness of his lab, he embarks on a modern-day "investigation of things." Instead of relying on external big data, he taps into the "inherent wisdom" within, turning Wang Yangming’s heart-mind philosophy into a legendary edge-computing firmware protocol. During a live tech blind test at COMPUTEX Taipei, tech giant Enco Network deploys massive data centers and tens of thousands of GPUs to format all independent devices. However, with only a few microchips on a simple breadboard, Zhou brilliantly triggers the "internal thief"—the inherent greed—of his opponent’s bloated algorithm, orchestrating a dimensional-reduction strike that shocks global venture capital. As the war moves to the black-and-white borders of the Tamsui River, facing life-threatening financial erasure, Zhou achieves the ultimate state of mind, initiating a grand renaissance of individual tech sovereignty. This masterpiece reveals that when you stop conforming to external metrics and align your inner consciousness, reality itself will collapse and reshape in your favor. Powered by Firstory Hosting

His first job was at a ceramics company that was nearly bankrupt. He wanted to quit. But he decided to give it everything he had first. That decision changed his entire life. Inamori Kazuo was born in Kagoshima in 1932. At twenty-seven he founded Kyocera. In 1984 he founded what became KDDI, now Japan's second largest telecommunications company. Both became world-class enterprises. His management philosophy had one central question: as a human being, is this the right thing to do? He applied that question to every decision, from hiring to restructuring. In 1997 he was ordained as a Buddhist monk. In 2010, at the age of seventy-eight, he was asked by the Japanese government to take over bankrupt Japan Airlines. He said he knew nothing about the airline industry. But he took the question with him. Two and a half years later Japan Airlines was profitable again. In 2012 it returned to the stock exchange. He died in 2022 at the age of ninety. Today on Thinker J, we walk into the life of the man who ran his businesses on philosophy. Powered by Firstory Hosting

Powered by Firstory Hosting

If you have ever sat in a cinema and felt a few piano notes make you hold your breath, that sound very likely came from Ryuichi Sakamoto. Born in Tokyo in 1952, Ryuichi Sakamoto was one of the most influential Japanese composers of the twentieth century. He co-founded the groundbreaking electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra alongside Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi, blending Eastern aesthetics with Western electronic textures and giving global listeners their first taste of that distinctive cool and futuristic sound. In 1983 he starred in Nagisa Oshima's film alongside rock legend David Bowie, and composed a theme so powerful it is still his most widely recognized work. In 1987 he scored Bernardo Bertolucci's epic film The Last Emperor, taking the Academy Award stage and writing Japanese compositional history. After the Fukushima disaster in 2011 he became one of the most prominent voices in Japan opposing nuclear power. In 2021 he was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. He did not stop composing. He said music is a gift to the living. In January 2023 he released his final album titled 12. In March of that year he left the world. Today on Thinker J, we walk into the life of the man who said he wanted to keep being curious until the very last moment. Powered by Firstory Hosting

You may have seen the polka dots flooding social media. The dizzying mirror rooms. The crowds posing next to giant yellow pumpkins. All of it comes from one woman. Her name is Yayoi Kusama. Born in Matsumoto, Nagano in 1929, Kusama began experiencing hallucinations as a child. Flowers spoke to her. Dots spread out and surrounded her. She painted to fight back against the visions that terrified her. She said that if she stopped painting, she would die. In 1958 she left Japan for New York with a few thousand dollars. She did not speak the language well. The money ran out fast. But she kept creating those dense, relentless Infinity Net canvases. By the 1960s she had become a legend in the New York avant-garde art scene and used naked happenings to join the anti-Vietnam War movement. In 1977 she chose to move into a psychiatric care facility in Tokyo. She says it was one of the best decisions of her life. From that day to this one, she walks to her studio every day and paints. One dot after another. Quiet and resolute. Today on Thinker J, we step inside the story behind all those dots. Powered by Firstory Hosting
