He burst onto the scene at nineteen with his collection Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. He served as a Chilean diplomat, joined the Communist Party, and was elected senator, all while writing poetry that moved millions. His epic masterpiece Canto General became a landmark of Latin American literature, written while he was in exile crossing the Andes on horseback. He loved three women across his lifetime, each relationship as intense as his politics. Twelve days after the 1973 Chilean coup, Neruda died under circumstances still debated today. Yet his poems survived everything. Translated into more than thirty-five languages, they continue to reach people through the heart rather than the eye. Join Jenny today for the story of a man who burned with equal intensity in love, poetry, and revolution. Powered by Firstory Hosting
