His first job was at a ceramics company that was nearly bankrupt. He wanted to quit. But he decided to give it everything he had first. That decision changed his entire life. Inamori Kazuo was born in Kagoshima in 1932. At twenty-seven he founded Kyocera. In 1984 he founded what became KDDI, now Japan's second largest telecommunications company. Both became world-class enterprises. His management philosophy had one central question: as a human being, is this the right thing to do? He applied that question to every decision, from hiring to restructuring. In 1997 he was ordained as a Buddhist monk. In 2010, at the age of seventy-eight, he was asked by the Japanese government to take over bankrupt Japan Airlines. He said he knew nothing about the airline industry. But he took the question with him. Two and a half years later Japan Airlines was profitable again. In 2012 it returned to the stock exchange. He died in 2022 at the age of ninety. Today on Thinker J, we walk into the life of the man who ran his businesses on philosophy. Powered by Firstory Hosting
