Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, opened a tiny cosmetics shop in Brighton, England in 1976 with very little money and handwritten labels on her bottles. She said what the ingredients were, where they came from, that she did not test on animals, and that she supported fair trade. Some said it was all marketing gimmicks. Some said the shop would not last long. Forty years later the brand had over two thousand global locations. She used one shop to prove that a business can have a position, values, and things to say while also making money. She once said that if you think being an entrepreneur and running an ethical business are contradictory, you have completely misunderstood what business is. In today's Thinker J, we step into the story of the woman who used a cosmetics shop as her voice. Powered by Firstory Hosting
