Ephphatha: Be Open! Are we Open to God in our Lives?

In today's homily & reflection, Fr Peter Wee wants us to focus on the phrase "Ephphatha", which means "Be Open." It is a word used by Jesus in the Gospel during one of His miracles. While the miracle itself is significant, the homily emphasizes that the message goes beyond physical healing; they serve as deeper lessons about spiritual openness and transformation. The homily connects this to St James' teaching, where we are reminded to shift from external judgements to focusing on Jesus, seeking transformation in our visions, thoughts, and attitudes. The story of Thomas doubting Jesus' resurrection illustrates also this need for spiritual openness. Like Thomas, we struggle with spiritual blindness, needing Jesus to open our eyes and hearts to the truth. The homily also highlights Isaiah's words of encouragement to the exiled Israelites, reminding us that God promises restoration and joy, even in despair. Ultimately, "Ephphatha" is a call to all of us to be open to God's presence, grace and transformation in our lives. We have eyes and ears.
