Episode 048: A Holistic Approach To Determine Priority

from The Business of Ergonomics Podcast · host Darcie Jaremey

As Ergonomics Consultants,  a common misconception is that ergonomics is too expensive and the equipment that has to be purchased will be outside the organization's budget. Today I want to share with you a simple approach that builds on top of regular employee surveying of discomfort in order to identify who needs an ergonomic intervention. The system that I'm going to share with you  is based on 3 types of variables: whether a MSD is present, whether there is worker discomfort, and whether there is other ergonomic risk factors at the workstation. From identifying these variables in the workplace gives us 5 different priority levels. This process is incredibly useful for gaining buy-in from workplaces who are apprehensive about the cost of ergonomics interventions.
