Episode 057 | It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas
from The 30 Percent Podcast · host The 30 Percent Podcast
*We apologize for the audio issues in today's episode. Christmas is in the air! In todays episode, Sam and Afam talk about the festive holidays. They somehow have opposing views on Santa as Afam provides context for the holiday hero and his origins. (and since it's a music podcast) The boys talk about artists and releases around Christmas time and their views on that. A Tosh Gitonga directed film, Volume, began showing on Netflix this past week. The boys give flowers to some friends of the podcast who worked on the film in various capacities. They then get into a discussion on different ways to make money in the music industry, and the profitability of synch licensing + more. Sam and Afam then get into some news. Safaricom and Mdundo team up to provide a new subscription service through Mdundo. Users will be able to pay for and download DJ mixes as well as have access to different services from Mdundo. Sam and Afam talk about this move and, why they think it is a positive thing for the industry, and raise some questions regarding the service. After that, the boys briefly discuss the 2023 Pulse Music Video Awards and its nominees. They then mention Sol Generations Press Play initiative and the recent project that came out of it. The boys also review new music that dropped last week! To bring more awareness to the different genres of music within the industry we hope to see the artists & songs discussed in the podcast receive the recognition they deserve. Join us for weekly episodes! Song Pick: Juanita - "Territory" (Produced by Hendrick Sam)
