Episode 1: Navigating ‘The Bastard Fields’ with Most Dismal Swamp & Rebecca Edwards
from Art & Tech Today · host Autotelic Foundation
In the debut episode of Art & Tech Today, experimental artist Most Dismal Swamp sits down with curator Rebecca Edwards for a deep dive into The Bastard Fields—a trippy, disorienting film that drags the emotional and cultural undercurrents of online life into the light. The conversation spills into the chaos of the digital psyche: neural media loops, meme-speak spirals, depressive realism, and the shadowy “dark forest” where niche subcultures hide out. Together they map the ways digital spaces seep into our moods, instincts, and the stories we tell ourselves. About the speakers: Most Dismal Swamp is the project of curator, artist, and researcher Dane Sutherland (b. 1985, Scotland). Operating through multimedia commissions and speculative collaborations, Most Dismal Swamp spans video, installation, and online hallucinations dredged from the slumgullion world of digital, platform, and neural media. Rebecca Edwards is a London-based curator, writer, and producer whose work explores experimental curatorial methods, new forms of cultural production, and the intersections of technology, digital aesthetics, and internet culture. Formerly curator at arebyte (2017–2024), she is currently co-host of the Future Artefacts Podcast and an access worker for artist Petra Szemán.
