Episode 10 - Anger: The Poison & The Purpose

from The True Strength Podcast · host Jeremiah and Tiffany Head

We are living in a world that has cultivated anger as a justified response to anything that opposes my way of thinking and believing, so it is no wonder that our headlines are constantly reporting violence, rage, and acts of contempt. There is this palpable dichotomy that we live in where, on one hand, anger is rampant, and on the other hand, righteous anger is noticeably absent. It’s easy to see the devastation that this is breeding, but much harder to know what causes it or how to stop it. The good news is that Jesus himself addressed it and so did our early church fathers in centuries old writings addressing what anger is, why God gave it to us, when to turn the other cheek, but also how we were designed to channel it through our unique identity to bring healing into this broken world.Today we are talking about the roots of anger that are being planted in the way we train up athletes in youth sports, about the contempt that festers in your women’s groups, and the greater problems related to anger that are poisoning society. But more importantly, we are talking about how God designed anger in us and what happens when we let the Holy Spirit bridle it in order to focus our passion and energy into being the answer to the brokenness around us. Join us as we take a closer look at The Sermon on the Mount from Matthew and unpack anger, malice, contempt, meekness, and how they can all work together to lead us closer to Jesus, our true identity, and our purpose.
