Episode 113: Love Feasts, Banquets and Liturgics with Professor Andrew Messmer

from History of the Papacy Podcast · host History of the Papacy

This is a very fun episode for me. It started off with an email from a listener who corrected me on a point I made about the history of the Christian liturgy. It turns out, the listener is a university academic, who has written papers on the foundations of the Christian liturgy. Well I just had to have Professor Andrew Messmer on the show. New information coming out from the academy is always really exciting, especially when it reassesses older theories and ideas. I hope to have Dr. Messmer back on the show again to discuss great new ideas that are coming out of the field. If there are aspects of ancient Christianity you would like to know more about, email me and I can try to put them into a future episode. Link to Professor Messmer’s Paper on the Liturgy:https://www.academia.edu/40864528/Early_Christian_Liturgy_A_Reconstruction_of_All_Known_Liturgical_Components_and_Their_Respective_Order_Early_Christian_Liturgy_A_Reconstruction_of_All_Known_Liturgical_Components_and_Their_Respective_Order You can learn more about the History of Papacy and subscribe at all these great places:http://atozhistorypage.com/email: [email protected]://rss.acast.com/historyofthepapacyhttps://www.patreon.com/historyofthepapacyhttps://www.facebook.com/HistoryOfThePapacyPodcast/https://twitter.com/atozhistory The History of the Papacy on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6DO2leym3kizBHW0ZWl-nA Get Your History of the Papacy Podcast Products Here: https://www.atozhistorypage.com/products Help out the show by ordering these books from Amazon!https://amzn.com/w/1MUPNYEU65NTF Music Provided by:"Danse Macabre" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)"Virtutes Instrumenti" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)"Virtutes Vocis" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)"Funeral March for Brass" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)"String Impromptu Number 1" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Agnus Dei X - Bitter Suite Kevin MacLeaod (incomptech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/historyofthepapacy.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
