Neon lights from nearby shops and the chatter of late-night crowds belied a horror that had erupted in a modest apartment on Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. There, the battered body of 23-year-old nightclub hostess Fan Man-yee was discovered: decapitated, her skull concealed inside a tattered Hello Kitty mermaid plush, its hollowed interior crowded with dead insects and fragments of bone.
