Episode #146: Living In The Past

from Tea Time w/Amie & Bev · host Amie Wade

It can be so easy to drift away into the past, ruminating over unresolved issues that may have made us feel pain or anger. It’s natural for our minds to want to fill in the gaps and make sense of things, but staying stuck in these stories can create a lot of stress on our bodies and keep us from living in the present moment. The good news is that it is possible to shift out of this habit of clinging onto past events and feelings. One way to do this is through mindfulness practice—focusing on your breath and being aware of what’s happening in the present without getting caught up in thoughts about the past or future. This helps you break free from negative thought patterns and reclaim your power to be present in the moment. Another way to move away from living in the past is by being more aware of and compassionate towards yourself. When we can recognize and accept our feelings, we can better understand why we cling onto these stories, and this helps us acknowledge them without judgment or blame. This allows us to feel less attached to the past, and instead focus on what’s happening right now. Living in the here-and-now helps us tap into a sense of peace and inner calmness that can be hard to find when we’re stuck ruminating about things that happened years ago. It also allows us to take actions based on what feels good for ourselves—rather than what we think will make us feel better in the future. Therefore, it is important to take the time to practice self-care and be mindful of our thoughts so that we can remain in the present. By doing this, we open up a space for creativity and healing, allowing us to move forward with intention instead of getting stuck in the past. May this conversation be beneficial to your life journey. Many blessings!
