Episode 15 - Kari Olsen-Porthouse

from Business in Mind · host Tricia Murray

Episode 15 - Kari Olsen-Porthouse     Kari is a community and workplace choir director who spreads joy, happiness and confidence to people through singing.  She started the biggest choir in 2018 - West Bridgford which has 130 singers. She arranges pop songs in 3/4 part harmony which she teaches by ear aiming to make her groups accessible to all. She now has expanded into 4 community choirs (East Leake and Ruddington) and another mens singing group to launch in September.   The workshop aspect of her business translates brilliantly to workplaces. Well-being and positive mental health activities are now being thought of much more and she can help. Last year with her business partner Rich, they launched kari-oke nights in a local bar. 4 songs in one night with a live band and they now have their first corporate booking for this in the diary.  Singing is inclusive which means it can reach a large group of people. The benefits include improved wellbeing and connection between people. This is great for communities including workplaces.   This episode is by far the most high-energy recording to date.  Kari shares all the different tangents of her business from running groups, corporate kari-oke, men’s workshops, vocal coaching and also coaching other choir leaders.  She shares her business model ensuring sustainability and stability and how the best ideas comes from rest and stopping.  We speak about moving in to flow and allowing rather than pushing and leveraging networks and moving into corporate workspace including getting a booking with John Lewis.  She speaks about how music has given people a little pocket of joy and how it’s supported people with social anxiety and supporting them to be more confident, find their voice and so much more including pulling people together.  She shares how she started to develop her mens singing group which spans ages 30 to 80 which starts in September.  This episode is such an uplifting episode about how something as simple as singing builds community and support and you can hear how Kari’s passion comes through very strongly.    Follow Kari here to find out more about her work: Website - www.libertysinger.com   ——   Let's get you clients and get you paid.   This podcast is here to support you to take forward your business in mind - that is any business that supports peoples mental or emotional wellbeing.    Here's how to connect with me.....   Website: www.triciamurray.co.uk   Follow me on insta: https://www.instagram.com/businessinmind.triciamurray   Join my newsletter: https://tricia-murray.mykajabi.com/newsletter-subscription-business-mentoring   Get my free guide - 10 Easy Ways to Build Community for Your Business in Mind: https://tricia-murray.mykajabi.com/10-ways-to-build-community
