Episode 16: Jim Hodges on How His AudioBooks of Classic Writings Teach History,

from The Homeschool Leadercast · host The Homeschool Leadercast

Audio Books of Classic Writings that Teach History, Geography, Character and LanguageSometimes it can be difficult to find good Classical writings that reflect our Christian values and beliefs systems.  Often times authors sell themselves out or just aren’t true to their own convictions.  It can also be difficult to find classical writings that teach in important academic areas and build on character principles.  What is even more difficult is to find classics in an audio book that are read with real passion and feeling in the book itself. In a previous interview, homeschool leader Mark Hamby stated, to get someone who is unaccustomed to reading books to have the desire to begin reading, he would begin with audio books.  Our next guest, who has worked with other homeschool leaders such as Todd Wilson and Andrew Pudewa, creates audiobooks from classical literature.  Listen as we hear today’s guest, Jim Hodges of Jim Hodges Audiobooks, share his passion for what he does and how others gain enjoyment and learn from his audiobooks.Jim Hodges is an 18 year home schooling father of three now adult children, a 20-year Navy retiree, and 33-year husband to Monica.  On a date night before his retirement, Monica asked what he would do if he could choose his job. Jim said, "Easy, I'd record books." Monica said "Let's try it!" and Jim Hodges Audio Books was born.  Jim has made unabridged recordings of 20 of the George Alfred Henty historical novels, 6 childrens books, 3 "Overtly Christian" books, and reissues educational Old Time Radio Shows.  Jim would like to see everyone enjoying their work doing something they love.Click here to: Check out Jim Hodges 2013 Christmas SpecialsConnect with Jim HodgesWebsite: JimHodgesAudiobooks.comFacebook: Jim-Hodges-Audio-BooksTwitter: @JimHodgesAudioemail: [email protected] Bob as he talks about:How his experience, including his naval experience, prepared him along the way.How Jim Hodges Audiobooks was born. Why Jim Hodges changed his choice of books to be true to his convictions.About George Alfred Henty and Henty’s Christian faith in his writingsJim’s cooperative arrangement with Andrew Pudewa of Excellence in WritingThe other writings that Jim Hodges have put on audiobooksHow a father can be actively involved in the education of their children.Look for Jim back on the show as he talks about self-employment.Jim's advice to other Christian husbands and fathers.Live it.
