Episode 17 - Worth: Redefining Worth Formed Within Academia and Living With Albinism - Lerato Kekana

from The God Pulse · host Polello Mowela

Some of the things that we use to define ourselves and measure our worth by are not things that are bad in of themselves. In fact, some of the things we use are recognized positively by society, culture and religion and are very commendable. This is the reason we may hardly find ourselves assessing ourselves internally when we gain a sense of worth within our accolades, possessions, wealth and status because the things we measure this sense of worth by are things that most people are in pursuit of; one way or the other. The issue begins when we only see our value when it is attached to these things, which are temporal, perishing and can be taken away at any given moment. When we look at our reflections, do we see all that we have achieved in the world, all that we can possibly achieve and see ourselves through that thing? How often do we look at ourselves and feel content in knowing that our worth – our REAL worth, is one that has been bestowed upon us by an eternal King and cannot be taken away? How often do we carry a deep knowing within ourselves that we do not need to qualify ourselves according to the world’s standards because God has already qualified us and placed purpose upon our lives? In this episode, I speak to Lerato Kekana about how her identity, value and worth were all deeply rooted in academia, and how when that was taken away from her, she found herself feeling short of divine purpose. She also shares on living with Albinism and how she has never allowed the condition to make her believe any of the stereotypes that society so harshly slams on those who have the same condition. She is also passionate and determined about educating people about Albinism and how to generally support anyone who may have to live with any kind of condition.
