Hello      Welcome back This is survived with Sophie and LexiWe started telling our survived story (in college) and we are moving on to being you guys moreThrough many different topics Gris Gris Box Gris‐ Gris Box is one of Saar’s so-called ancestral boxes, an assemblage grounded in African American ritual tradition. At its heart sits a doll evoking an African American woman, encircled by ceremonial objects— feathers, beads and small spheres that stand in for the planets. Strands of hair dangle beneath the box’s base, a nod to hoodoo and other healing customs. Along the top rim three carved eyes appear, recalling the “ third eye” of inner vision in many spiritual systems. Its title points directly to African American ritual practice and the ways memory, lineage and spirituality inform artistic creation.
