Episode 18: Julia Maues (Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer at 36)

Julia Maues was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 while she was pregnant. She was 29 years old at that time. She received chemotherapy during pregnancy and then after her delivery of a healthy boy, she had tests performed that she could not have done while pregnant and it was found that the cancer had spread to her brain, liver, and bones. She is now 36 years old, living with metastatic breast cancer and making a direct impact in patients’ lives through her work as a breast cancer advocate. She focuses on bringing funding to research, highlighting the patient experiencing, challenging the current image of breast cancer, and collaborating with researchers and clinicians. Julia and I connected through Twitter and were able to meet up and record this episode at the 2019 ASCO Annual Meeting.
