Episode 18 - Worth: Comparison and the Fruits That We Bear From It

from The God Pulse · host Polello Mowela

Comparison is known widely to be the thief of joy. The habit of comparing ourselves is a reality known to man since human beings came into being. Like when Eve was deceived into eating the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden because she desired to have the knowledge of good and evil and be like God. Or, like when Cain murdered his brother, Abel, in the fields because he was envious of how pleased God was with his brother’s offering as opposed to his own. When we compare ourselves to other people in order to gauge whether we are making enough progress we rob ourselves of the opportunity to not only learn from but enjoy the journey of becoming better versions of ourselves. Not only that, but comparison has the ability to make us blind to all that God has bestowed upon us and all that He has done and is doing in our lives because it keeps us occupied with what is happening in the lives of others. This creates in us a heart posture of ingratitude and breeds more fruit such as jealousy, envy, anger, impatience, faithlessness, hopelessness, insecurity and so much more. In this episode, join the conversation of how comparison steals so much from us and how we can tear away from that toxic normality by recognizing our own greatness and positioning ourselves to help others recognize their own.
