Episode 185: Comparative Suffering

from Rock Solid Relationships

Do you remember when you were a little kid and you didn't want to eat your broccoli and your mom said, "There are starving children in the world so you should feel lucky to have that broccoli!" This is a form of comparative suffering. (Love to all you moms and grandmas out there!) We say to ourselves that we shouldn't be feeling this way because someone has it worse than we do. Or, even the flip side. Someone shares with us what they're going through and we think, Really? Why are they even complaining about this? I have it so much worse.  Comparative suffering doesn't take away the pain of another person, it just adds to our own. listen to this week's episode to learn what we can do instead and how doing that will help us with ourselves and those around us.
