Episode 229: Coach Casey Pierce (Head Boys Basketball Coach at Slidell High School) Slidell, TX (Building a Small School Program)

from Championship Vision Basketball Podcast · host Kevin Furtado

My name is Casey Pierce and I am the athletic director and head boys coach for Slidell ISD in Slidell, Texas.  I am originally from Krum, Texas where I attended school and graduated in 1998.  At Krum I was a member of the 1998 2A State championship basketball team as well as a three time state qualifier in cross country. After graduation I enrolled at the University of North Texas where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and minor in Health Promotions.  Since graduating in 2003, I have spent the past eighteen years in Texas education with positions in Krum (2002-2005), Lufkin Hudson (2005-2008), and Anna (2008-20012). In 2013 I began my employment with Slidell as an assistant coach prior to being named athletic director / head coach in 2017.   Additionally, I serve as head coach for boys cross country and girls and boys track. During my time in Slidell our programs have accumulated multiple district, regional, and state accomplishments.  Our boys cross country teams have been district champions the past eight years and two time state qualifiers (2018, 2019) finishing seventh and eight respectively.  Boys track has earned two district championships (2018, 2019) and qualified more than 90 athletes to the regional meet over the past seven seasons. Our boys’ basketball team has been district champions the past three years and currently holds a fifty-one game district winning streak.  During this time boys’ basketball has won two regional titles (2019, 2020), a state title in 2019, and a co-state championship last year after reaching the state finals prior to the COVID shutdown.  We are currently ranked number one in the Texas 1A state polls.  In addition, Slidell has been named the 1A state free-throw champion the past seven consecutive seasons by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. I have been married for fourteen years to my wife Terri, who is a project manager at the University of North Texas and is involved in the design and construction of many of the new buildings going up around campus.  We have two sons, Carter who is in fifth grade at Slidell and Tucker who will turn four in March.
