Episode 25: Minimising Food Waste

from Sustainable You · host Jacqui Kidman & Lisa Whiston

Did you know that 40% of our household waste is made up of food scraps? Australians send 5.3 million tonnes of food waste to landfill every single year, where it produces the harmful gas methane as it breaks down. The greenhouse gases produced by the food waste in landfill is the same amount as those produced by the steel and iron ore industries combined. We need to be thinking of clever ways to reduce, and utilise the amount of food that we are bringing into our households - as well as considering our options of disposing of the food waste afterwards. Jacqui and Lisa discuss some of the ways they try to minimise their impact, and invite you to join them on their journey.
