Episode 26 - The Five Movement Skills Every Woman Needs

from Becoming Her · host Jeanetta Bodie

Hi, love—and welcome back to Becoming Her.It’s Steph here, Jeanetta’s partner behind the scenes, usually editing and cheering from the background. This week, Jeanetta offers an empowering breakdown on what it really means to build a well-rounded fitness routine. This one hit especially close to home—because I remember how overwhelming it felt when I first started strength training. In the beginning, I didn’t know what exercises to choose or how to organize my workouts. What helped build my confidence was showing up at Block Fitness—where I could learn the basics in real time, with support. That gave me the foundation to understand how my body moved in space, how to adjust form, and what “good” movement actually felt like. From there, I pursued my NASM certification and slowly began writing my own programs—using movement patterns like push, pull, hinge, squat, lunge, and carry as my guide. And now? I can pivot mid-workout. I trust my body to tell me what feels right. Some exercises that work for me don’t work for my husband—and that’s the beauty of it. It’s deeply personal. It’s empowering. What struck me most in this episode is Jeanetta’s invitation to stop chasing perfect plans and start designing movement around real life—around your needs, your energy, your goals. I realized I’ve already been hitting all five of the movement skills she describes—Cardiovascular Endurance, Balance, Mobility, Power, and Strength—just by living fully. A typical week for me looks like three strength sessions, daily dog walks, two yoga classes, and weekend hikes or swims. I never planned to “train” all five skills—it just happened by tuning into what felt good. That’s what I hope you hear in this episode:It doesn’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to follow someone else’s formula. You get to define what strength looks like for you.And once you do? That’s where the magic is.Let us know what lands. We’re always here, listening with you.Much love,StephEpisode Summary:In this episode of Becoming Her, Jeanetta closes out a powerful three-part series on building an intentional, sustainable fitness routine—one rooted in purpose, not pressure. With wisdom drawn from pain science, pelvic health, and decades of movement experience, Jeanetta shares the five key movement skills she incorporates into every week:* Cardiovascular Endurance* Balance* Mobility* Power* StrengthRather than chasing a perfect plan, she invites you to ask:What kind of life am I training for?Whether you’re hiking mountains, chasing toddlers, or rebuilding your strength post-menopause, this episode offers a flexible, honest, and empowering framework for movement at any stage of life. You’ll also hear:* The difference between mobility vs. flexibility (and why it matters)* How to match your workouts to your lifestyle, personality, and cycle* Simple ways to build variety using foundational movement patterns (push, pull, hinge, squat, lunge, carry)* How to use movement to regulate your nervous system and support mental clarity* Why consistency doesn’t require rigidity—and how to create space for both challenge and easeJeanetta’s goal?
