Episode #280: Fixer vs. Hero

from Tea Time w/Amie & Bev · host Amie Wade

In relationships, there’s a subtle yet powerful distinction between being a fixer and being a hero. At first glance, both roles look like helping. But the energy and intention behind them tell two very different stories.  A fixer often feels compelled to swoop in whenever a problem arises. Their drive comes from obligation, fear of conflict, or even the need to prove their worth. Over time, this cycle can create resentment and exhaustion because fixing becomes less about love and more about maintaining control or keeping the peace. The result is a heavy heart and simmering anger that no amount of “help” can resolve.  A hero, on the other hand, chooses to help from a place of empowerment and genuine care. The action feels lighter, intentional, and rooted in joy. Instead of draining energy, it fuels connection. Being a hero leaves space for pride in the act itself, not just relief that a problem has been patched.  Both roles can tip into unhealthy patterns if they become addictive for the need to feel valuable. The key is awareness by asking yourself not just what you’re doing, but why you’re doing it. That distinction makes all the difference.  May this conversation be beneficial to your life journey.
