Episode 31 – Part 1 – Brian Kelsey

Brian Kelsey is the famous producer who helped to create and proliferate a sound that many consider one of the best Rock Radio Stations in America.  92-3 K-Rock NYC 1996 to 2000.  He was brought in to pick up after John Frost made the initial launch.  He Produced with creativity and originality and in the process, was recruited by Howard Stern to re-brand his show.  He is one of the top guys you mention when you mention rock and/or alternative radio branding.  In Part One we discuss his background, his “idol”, his arrrival at K-Rock NYC and other not so serious stuff, like his boss’ nickname for Brian.  Be sure to check out Part 2 where we discuss life after radio and all the great things talented people can do aside from Radio Imaging Production. show31_1_012011 Note:  I didn’t get it into the podcast but here are some technical specs of Brian’s Studio.  He uses and loves his Neumann TLM-103 Mic.  He has a Rane processor/channel strip and runs all his audio into Pro Tools.  He uses a simple Mbox Mini for his road kit with some digi plugs to emulate the Rane.
