Episode 33 | Bradley Dryburgh: Write Your Own Eulogy
from Everything Counts Podcast Hosted by Jamie Small - co hosted by George Azzi
Bradley Dryburgh joins Jamie Small and George Azzi at The Grey. Born with cystic fibrosis and told his life would be ruined, the Wollongong real estate agent swapped hospital stays for marathon finish lines, built a 312-episode podcast, and wrote the memoir I Wrote My Own Eulogy. He left school at 16 for TAFE personal training, then moved into real estate at 20. A move to Melbourne’s high-end market looked like the prize, until seven-day weeks and distance from family sent his lungs backwards. He came home, picked up The Alchemist, and learned the treasure was in the journey. A nine-year-old ward-mate named Krishnan, smiling through leukaemia, still shapes how he shows up. Trikafta in 2022 cleared 13 years of daily mucus in 72 hours and lifted his lung function 10 per cent. He has run marathons and a 50k on 74 to 76 per cent lung function, raised money for Cystic Fibrosis Australia, and treats health as the first cornerstone: lose it and you lose everything. They get into why a moving man eventually meets his luck, writing your own eulogy as a filter for what actually matters, parents who never let him see the fear, a nightly prayer that started at 13, the smelling salts and chilli, a spiral fracture from chasing his wife up the stairs, burnout after 18 months without a day off, and IVF on the cards with his wife. Five years from now he wants to be happier, healthier, by the beach, and a good example for the kids he hopes to have. Hosted by Jamie Small with co-host George Azzi.
