Episode #331: You’re Still Trying to Prove Your Worth to People Who Aren’t Even in the Room
from Tea Time w/Amie & Bev · host Amie Wade
If you learned as a child that being helpful, agreeable, responsible, or “good” earned approval, you may still unconsciously associate pleasing others with being worthy of love. Saying yes can become a way of avoiding disappointment, rejection, or the uncomfortable feeling that someone might think less of you. But every yes comes with a cost. When you say yes to someone else’s request, project, expectation, or need, you may unknowingly be saying no to something that matters to you - your time, your energy, your business, your family, your rest, or simply the space you need to take care of yourself. And those old patterns don’t necessarily disappear when the people whose approval you once wanted are no longer part of your life. You can still find yourself trying to prove that you’re good enough to an audience that isn’t even in the room. Personal growth means learning to pause before automatically saying yes and asking yourself: If I say yes to this, what am I saying no to in my own life? Sometimes saying no to someone else isn’t selfish at all. Sometimes it’s finally saying yes to yourself. May this conversation be beneficial to your life journey. Many blessings!
