Today we are sharing the story of Alexander Pearce, an Irish-born man who in the early 1800s was sentenced to serve seven years in a penal colony in what is now Tasmania for stealing six pairs of shoes.He escaped with a few other prisoners into the treacherous lands off of Sarah Island. He was the only one that would survive.
