Episode 4 - The Spiritual Discipline of Slowing

from Andrew Burchett Podcast · host Andrew Burchett

It's probably too late to become a farmer at my age, but it's tempting.  While I'm a shepherd of people, my daughter is a shepherd of just one lamb.  The lessons we have learned in seeing God's rhythms embedding in nature are so refreshing.  There are beginnings and ends, seasons, times to cultivate, plant, and harvest.  Since 1370 we have been living as a slave to the clock, living rhythms that were neither created by God nor designed for our good.  I want to learn God's rhythms instead of rushing, life hacking and cheating my way to getting more for less effort.  I'm working on habits that will lead me to a slower lifestyle - one that allows me to breathe... I want to be more present to God, to myself and with others.  When I slow down, I am able to fulfill the command of Jesus to love one another.  You don't love people well when you are in a hurry, not even if you think you can multi-task well.  When we slow our body down, our spirit will begin to slow down as well.    Links: John Mark Comers book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry January 9, 2022 Sunday message The Posture of Slowing (You Tube) January 9, 2022 Sunday message The Posture of Slowing (Pod cast)
