After purchasing his first set of turntables and mixer (all by Gemini) he began honing his skills in his bedroom. After playing local parties and finally managing to upgrade to better equipment, DJ Q finally gat a break when one of his mix tapes got him a call to play at a bar in NYC. Q continued to work diligently, entering mix contest after mix contest and got his first real big chance when he was a runner up and was asked by the promoter Kenny L. to play at one of the rooms at the legendary Tunnel night club in Manhattan. Gigs at Speed and Aria to name a few followed. Accolades such as being one of the finalists in URB Magazine's mix contest in the early 2000's as well as a favorable review from URB Mag for his set named "Schizophrenia" also followed.
