Episode 45: Breathing into the Medicine (feat. Yury Opendik)

from This One Time On Psychedelics · host Ryan Sprague

For anyone who has experimented with plant medicines & psychedelics, you know exactly what I mean when I state that these experiences can be delivered with their fair share of challenges. For many newbies, this is what they fail to recognize & ultimately why they end up allowing a challenging experience to be cast as a “bad” experience. When people ask me for tips on how they can come to view these challenges as positive, rather than negative, no subject comes to mind & heart quicker than that of mind & body regulation. Having the inner-standing of how to control your breath, nervous system response & subsequent thoughts stemming from our nervous system response has been, speaking for myself, the most beneficial way to shape my own meaning out of my plant medicine ceremonies, regardless of what I experience during the ceremony. As many of you have heard me say before, I created this platform to not only discuss experiences, but to also bring on leading experts in their respective fields to discuss ways in which one can “do the work” beforehand to ensure they are set up for success in discerning whether or not these medicines are right for them in their lives & the gentleman I am fortunate enough to be speaking with today is a shining example of this form of mastery. He is a world renowned Wim Hof certified instructor, in which he guides people from all over the country in taking the term autonomy from a noun to a verb in his heart centered live workshops, is a highly skilled CHEK practitioner, from which he has developed a deep understanding of the human mind, body & spirit & is a world class yoga instructor, in which he allows people to experience what yoga truly stands for, which is the union of mind, body & spirit.Show Notes:(3:55) Yuri talks about the first time he had a truly psychedelic experience.(5:13) Yuri recalls his thoughts on coming out of a trip.(8:18) Ryan recalls his first time really feeling IT.(12:00) Connect With Cannabis.(15:01) Ryan talks about how he approaches psychedelics.(23:13) Yuri shares some tips on how he prepares himself for a plant medicine ceremony.(26:17) Ryan shares his ways of overcoming challenging experiences.(28:28) Ryan describes his experience of taking a heroic dose of mushrooms a few months after taking 5-MeO-DMT and how it enhanced his journey.(32:37) Yuri gives some tips for a safe journey.(37:00) Ryan asks Yuri about ayahuasca. (43:31) Join our Facebook Community!(49:28) Yuri talks about religion and medicine.(1:03:50) Yuri talks about the importance of meditation. (1:07:30) How you can connect with Yuri.(1:07:52) FINAL QUESTION...This episode was produced by Mazel Tov Media in Quincy, Massachusetts.https://www.highlyoptimized.com@therealryansprague
