Episode 50: Rachel Maia

from The Dom Harvey Podcast

Rachel Maia from Whanganui is total bad-ass. But just DON’T call her “Inspirational.” (She explains why during our conversation). As well as being a mum to three kids, Rachel is also one of the best lower limb amputee para-climber in the world. What makes this even more remarkable is the backstory. When she was 16, Rachel had a freak fall from a reasonably small height at an indoor climbing wall and broke both her ankles. Then years later as an adult she decided to return to the spot she loves…even though it had, in many ways, ruined her life.In 2019, Rach made the decision to amputate below her left knee.  It’s a hell of a journey and I really hope you guys like it. Rachel Maia is a woman on a mission to remind each and every one of us that we all have unlimited potential.Need to warn you, there were a couple of sound and microphone issues with this episode. I’m so sorry about that. If you are listening with earplugs in it may not be too annoying (hopefully) but yeah, its an incredible story so I hope Rach's story is bigger than the technical difficulties.Dom   Hosted on Acast.
