Episode 8 (I Do, But How Do I?)

The social topic to be discussed in Episode 8 of the podcast is on Marriage and themed, “I do, but how do I?”. Our experiences with clients have shown that a lot of couples live under the mistaken belief of having validly contracted an Ordinance Marriage which is created under Part III of the Marriages Act, 1884-1985 (“CAP 127”) and governed by the Matrimonial Causes Act, 1971 (Act 367) or a Mohammedan Marriage created under Part II of CAP 127. Marriages that fall short of the requirements provided for by law tend to lead to severe legal complications in respect of the status of a “spouse”, matters on succession and inheritance.
