Episode 8: Kathy Brown

from Revival Records Podcast · host Revival Podcast

For over three decades now Kathy Brown has been one of house music’s most beloved artists, with a string of hit records that includes Turn Me Out, Joy, Stronger On My Own, You Give Good Love, Another Love, Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and so many more.  She has collaborated with or been remixed by just about every big-name house music producer you can think of, and performed at huge events, parties, clubs and festivals all over the world. The sheer quantity of records in her catalogue is staggering, but even more impressive is the consistency of quality in the productions, and that voice full of thunder which seems to be channelled directly from somewhere up above. For the past year Kathy’s battle with cancer has been widely publicised, inspiring an enormous outpouring of love and support from the dance music community. Defected has released a collection of her records entitled ‘Legacy’ via their imprint Glitterbox, with label profits from the record going towards her healthcare fund, while fans and friends across the globe have joined together to show their support in a myriad of ways, confirming once again that music builds powerful connections and creates families who don’t just show up for the good times, but are there for each other when the going gets tough. As a cherished member of the Revival collective, we are proud to be part of Kathy’s extended family and to share her inimitable vocals with the world once again, this time on our eighth single, Dance To The Music.  The song’s message resonates on a deeper level when facing the kinds of challenges that Kathy has been up against.   Upon its release, the artist had these words that she wanted to share with the world:   “If you are here today, you need to get on up and dance to this here music. That’s right, I said GET ON UP and Dance To The Music because tomorrow ain’t guaranteed for nobody, and there is NO better use of whatever time you’ve got left than to dance!”
