Episode 8: Narrative Convenience

from The Slingshot from Levees.Org Hosted by Sandy Rosenthal

Regular panelists Sandy Rosenthal and Rudy Vorkapic chat with special guest Sandy Parker (New Orleans) about how the leadership at The Advocate newspaper refuses to issue a style guide change for Hurricane Katrina that includes mention of levee failure in New Orleans. Rudy Vorkapic, originally from Chicago, came to New Orleans the year prior to Katrina. He founded and produced the satirical newspaper called The Levee with its motto, “We hold nothing back.” First newspaper to call out the USACE for its primary role in the flooding. Sandy Parker is a New Orleans filmmaker and real estate agent who was inspired to move back to the area from Oregon after Hurricane Katrina. She’s been a marching member of Krewe du Vieux for over a decade, and she recently renovated a home in Broadmoor where she lives with her Ragamuffin cat, which is a Ragdoll-Persian mix, named Hazel.
