In recognition of the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's landfall, The Slingshot from Levees.Org presents an hour-long special dedicated to the politics, consequences, and victims of the storm. Sandy. Rudy, and Stuart remember their own experiences during the disaster, and reflect on the work that's still to be done to ensure a safer future. 

Sandy and Rudy chat about what life was like for them personally in 2005 ––one month before the levees broke during Hurricane Katrina. He founded and produced the satirical newspaper called The Levee with its motto, “We hold nothing back.” First newspaper to call out the USACE for its primary role in the flooding. Sandy Parker is a New Orleans filmmaker and real estate agent who was inspired to move back to the area from Oregon after Hurricane Katrina. She’s been a marching member of Krewe du Vieux for over a decade, and she recently renovated a home in Broadmoor where she lives with her Ragamuffin cat, which is a Ragdoll-Persian mix, named Hazel.

Sandy, Stuart and special guest Molly Horton (San Francisco) discusse the controversial passage of Proposition K in San Francisco, which has reimagined the former Great Highway as Ocean Beach Park. This measure invites conversation surrounding the necessity of reclaiming spaces for pedestrian use, a phenomenon that is taking place throughout the country.
