They heard immigration officers were present, and panic quickly swept through the community. Protests erupted soon after, and cars were set on fire. President Donald Trump decided to intervene. Without consulting California Governor Gavin Newsom, he mobilized the California National Guard in a rare move. He deployed around 2,000 soldiers to Los Angeles. Governor Newsom responded, calling the action an "abuse of power."Two citizens of China, Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, were charged with conspiracy to smuggle goods into the U.S., as well as making false statements and visa fraud.
