EP: 135 Hantavirus /Norovirus. Are you going on a cruise?

More than 100 people fell ill from a norovirus outbreak aboard a cruise ship bound for Port Canaveral.A major health emergency is unfolding after reports of a dangerous virus outbreak aboard a cruise ship prompted a large-scale evacuation. Passengers and crew members are reportedly being moved as health officials and emergency responders work to contain the situation amid growing fears of a wider spread. The outbreak has sparked panic among travelers and raised fresh questions about health and safety protocols on cruise liners, following multiple global concerns over infectious disease management in recent years. Authorities are continuing investigations into the virus, while medical teams remain on alert as passengers undergo screening and emergency procedures.

EP: 134 What is the Hantavirus? Outbreak on a cruise ship.

Hantaviruses are a family of viruses spread primarily by rodents (mice, rats, voles) that can cause severe, potentially fatal respiratory or renal infections in humans, such as Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS). Transmission occurs through inhaling virus-contaminated air or contact with rodent feces, urine, or saliva. Key Details About HantavirusTransmission: Humans get infected mainly by breathing in dust contaminated with rodent droppings or urine, or by touching these materials and then their eyes/nose. It is rarely transmitted between humans, though some strains, like the Andes virus, can be.Symptoms: Early symptoms (1-8 weeks after exposure) include fever, fatigue, and muscle aches (especially thighs, hips, and back). Late-stage symptoms include severe lung infections (HPS) with severe breathing difficulties.Fatality Rate: HPS is highly serious, with mortality rates around 50% in some outbreaks.Prevention: Primary prevention involves managing and preventing rodent infestations in homes, cabins, and workplaces.Diagnosis/Treatment: No specific treatment or vaccine exists; early detection and supportive care in an ICU are critical. Common MisconceptionsIt's not just a "third-world" disease: Hantaviruses are found worldwide, and specific strains exist throughout the Americas and Eurasia. Not all rodents carry it: It is specific to certain species, such as deer mice in North America. It's not spread solely by bites: The vast majority of cases are caused by inhaling contaminated dust while cleaning, not by rodent bites. The World Health Organization is keeping an eye on a Hantavirus epidemic on a cruise ship that has left over 140 passengers stranded and three people dead. The WHO reports that out of the 147 passengers and crew, seven have fallen ill, three of them have passed away, one is seriously ill, and three are experiencing minor symptoms.

EP: // The Jessica Ross Story

The death of a baby who was decapitated during delivery has been ruled a homicide by a medical examiner's office in the U.S. state of Georgia.Parents Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor sued a hospital they allege failed to inform them that their son was decapitated during birth last year.A medical examiner's office said the cause of death was a broken neck caused by human action, according to a statement shared by the couple's attorney. The hospital has denied wrongdoing.Mr. Taylor accused the doctor who delivered the baby and the hospital of lying to them and not allowing them to see their son, whom they named Treveon Taylor Jr."We just want justice for our son," Mr. Taylor said at a news conference on Wednesday in Atlanta. "They lied to us, they ain't let us touch him, we didn't like it."

EP: // 132 Trump's security team must do better? // Is Iran Targeting World’s Internet with Threats to Undersea Cables?

Shots were fired during the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night. The stage was cleared, including President Trump. The suspect in Saturday night's White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting is in custody and is hospitalized, officials said. He has been identified as a 30-year-old Cole Allen of Torrance, California, three sources told CBS News. Iranian state-linked media has warned of potential attacks on undersea cables in the Persian Gulf, shifting focus from oil to the invisible infrastructure powering the global internet. These submarine cables carry emails, banking transactions, and most global data traffic. Key routes run through the Strait of Hormuz, a major digital chokepoint serving Gulf nations. Any disruption could trigger widespread outages, financial instability, and even geopolitical escalation. Past incidents in the Baltic and Red Seas show that such risks are real. For data-heavy economies like India, heavily reliant on these networks, even limited damage could disrupt services, slow connectivity, and impact millions within minutes

EP: 130 Countries are tagged teaming against the United States. Who will the United States team up with?

A new flashpoint is emerging in the global energy war as tensions rise between the US and China over Iran's oil trade. Washington has tightened sanctions, refusing to renew relief that permitted Iranian oil sales, while warning Beijing against continuing imports. A new report adds a security dimension, claiming Iran used a Chinese-linked satellite to monitor US military bases. The US has labeled China an 'unreliable partner,' while Russia has offered to offset China’s energy needs. For years, China has been the lifeline for Iran’s oil exports through shadow networks. Now, as US President Donald Trump ramps up pressure, a broader geopolitical and energy realignment is unfolding.Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has triggered a diplomatic storm after demanding $1 billion and 'the most beautiful woman in Turkey' as his wife, giving Ankara a 30-day ultimatum to comply or face the closure of its embassy in Kampala. The general framed his billion-dollar demand as a 'security dividend' to compensate for Uganda's nearly two-decade military deployment in Somalia, where Ugandan troops have fought and died battling Al-Shabaab terrorists, while Turkey quietly built ports, airports, hospitals, and billion-dollar infrastructure across the country. Hem Saroya tells you.

EP: 129 Does age matter in relationships? Pt. 1

Age is not as important in a relationship as life stage, maturity, and common objectives. Large age disparities can cause problems due to generational differences or different energy levels, but successful partnerships are based on compatibility, respect, and shared ideals, so the age difference is frequently immaterial. Key Factors Regarding Age Gaps:Life Stages & Maturity: Significant gaps (e.g., 10-15+ years) can create challenges when partners are at vastly different life stages, such as one wanting to start a family while the other is looking to retire.Common Ground: The likelihood of shared interests decreases with greater age differences, potentially affecting long-term compatibility.Social and Emotional Factors: People often prioritize emotional maturity over chronological age, looking for partners who are established and know what they want.Statistical Risk: Some studies, such as one from Emory University, suggest that larger age gaps (e.g., 10 or 20 years) may correlate with a higher likelihood of divorce. The "Rule of Thumb": A common, informal guideline is the "half your age plus seven" formula for calculating an acceptable minimum age, though this is subjective

EP: 128 We need a break from the madness!!

President Donald Trump is issuing a new warning about the fragile ceasefire with Iran, saying the United States military “will remain in and around Iran until such time as the real agreement reached is fully complied with.” Meanwhile, the status of the Strait of Hormuz remains unclear, as does whether Iran will give up its enriched uranium, which Iran insists was not part of the agreement. A sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed in Porterville, California, on Thursday morning. Tulare County Sheriff Boudreaux held a news conference where he said the deputy was shot by a suspect while serving an eviction notice. Police said the suspect is still barricaded and asked the suspect to stay away.Three men, including former members of the Godley Police Department, were arrested and face multiple charges related to promoting and soliciting prostitution. FOX 4's David Sentendrey spoke to one of the wife of one of the suspects who was previously convicted of prostitution.

EP: 127 Ultimatums and Consequences Pt. 1

The SBI reports that Captain Adam Bean, a deputy from Cumberland County, died after a physical altercation with another law enforcement officer. WRAL News is investigating to determine what caused the incident and whether charges will be filed. In a closed-door speech, the White House apparently unintentionally released and then deleted it (but not before it was downloaded and shared), Donald Trump stated that the federal government cannot provide services like daycare when his focus is on military strength, not the welfare of the American people. Senator Chris Van Hollen joins to discuss.Grandmother allegedly raped and murdered in Oklahoma. The President is demanding that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but so far, Iran is not budging.Iran has rejected a US ceasefire proposal and communicated its response through Pakistan, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency on Monday. Mediators have reportedly presented a two-phase peace plan to the US and Iran to end the conflict in West Asia. The proposal reportedly includes an immediate ceasefire and a promise to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Will Iran and the US accept this plan?

EP: 126 What's going on in Cleveland?

A 10-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy are accused of attempted murder and rape in a brutal attack on a 5-year-old girl from Cleveland. The suspects were both scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Wednesday morning, but only the 10-year-old showed up.Wearing a face mask and a pink coat, the girl remained silent as the prosecutor outlined the charges against her. He said the case stems from Sept. 13, when a 5-year-old girl was “found naked in a field, urinated upon and assaulted with a weapon.”A family member sat behind the accused during the hearing. Judge Kristin Sweeney placed the 10-year-old on home detention with an electronic monitor.“I can’t really imagine circumstances under which these would be the charges that I would not release some sort of court supervision,” the judge said. The victim’s mother, Antavia Kennibrew, was also present in court and was understandably emotional. She previously told WOIO that her daughter was beaten, assaulted, and scalped.“This type of behavior doesn’t deserve grace. They knew what they were doing, and they were OK with that. They even played after not caring about my baby. Remember that,” Kennibrew said. The family of the 9-year-old suspect, who did not show up to court, cited car troubles. The judge has ordered the boy to appear in court within the next week, threatening to issue an arrest warrant if he fails to comply.

EP: 123 Sexual Predators Part 1

A sexual predator is a repeat or violent sex offender who targets vulnerable individuals, often manipulating them through trust-building, grooming, and boundary-pushing to facilitate abuse. They are legally identified after convictions for serious, often first-degree, felony sex crimes or repeated offenses.Signs and Behaviors of a Sexual PredatorGrooming: Initially attentive, using gifts, praise, and special attention to create dependency and a false sense of intimacy, according to WebMD.Boundary Testing: Frequently pushes physical, emotional, or social boundaries to see what they can get away with, starting with seemingly "innocent" touches, says Laffey Bucci D’Andrea Reich & Ryan.Isolation Tactics: Isolates victims from family and friends and acts overly protective or controlling, notes the Alaska Department of Family and Community Services.Manipulating Vulnerability: Uses substances like alcohol to lower inhibitions or exploits a child’s need for affection, highlighting the U.S. Air Forces in Europe.Digital Grooming: Uses social media platforms to target and lure minors, say officials in this ABC30 Fresno report.

EP: 122 Who Failed America Kids? Part 1

Reading proficiency in the United States has declined sharply from 2012 to 2025, with scores falling to their lowest in decades, according to National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) data. While literacy levels remained fairly steady in the early 2010s, the period leading up to 2025 experienced a steep decline, worsened by pandemic-related learning disruptions, resulting in a "sobering" drop in proficiency among both K-12 students and adults.  Comparison Highlights: 2012 vs. 2025Student proficiency (K-12): Reading scores in 2024–2025 fall to their lowest levels since 1992 for 12th graders. Meanwhile, in 2013, 4th-grade reading scores had improved compared to the previous decade, making the current decline a stark reversal of earlier trends.Lower Performers: The decline is uneven, with lower-performing students experiencing much sharper drops in proficiency than their higher-performing peers, widening the achievement gap.Adult Literacy: The percentage of U.S. adults (ages 16-65) with low literacy skills increased from 17% in 2012/2014 to 28% by 2023, indicating a significant long-term decline.Reading for Pleasure: The percentage of nine-year-olds reading for fun dropped from 53% in 2012 to 39% in 2022, and the decline continues into 2025.Grade Inflation: Despite lower demonstrated reading mastery, the percentage of students earning A's in English rose from 48% in 2012 to 56% in 2022, showing that higher grades no longer reflect higher reading skills.

EP: 121 Men of color in America Part 2

College enrollment for men of color in America is decreasing due to systemic barriers, economic struggles, and inadequate K-12 preparation. Major factors include financial hardships leading to work instead of education, a lack of male role models, the impact of the affirmative action ban, and a challenging campus environment that affects retention.Key Factors in Declining Enrollment•Economic Pressures & Financial Hardships: Many men of color choose to enter the workforce early to support their families, viewing high tuition and student loan debt as unsustainable risks rather than opportunities.•Systemic K-12 Inequities: A shortage of representation, with few male teachers of color, affects mentoring and aspirations. Additionally, higher suspension rates hinder academic progress, creating a "pathway problem."•The "Belief Gap" and Campus Environment: Studies show a "belief gap" where educators have lower expectations. Many students feel disengaged or unsupported. Also, about 1 in 5 Black men face discrimination, impacting their stay in college.•Post-Affirmative Action Effects: After the Supreme Court ruling, some top institutions have seen notable drops in Black and Hispanic male enrollment, possibly due to less targeted recruitment or students choosing not to report race.

EP: 120 Men of color in America

Black Americans’ incomes have long lagged behind those of other Americans. Simultaneously, income inequality among Black Americans was the second largest of any demographic group as of 2016. That year, the highest-earning Black Americans earned nearly 10 times as much as the lowest earners.Overall, just 6% of Black adults in the U.S. had annual earnings of $100,000 or more in 2021, according to our analysis of the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. This share increases to 16% among those with at least a bachelor’s degree or higher and decreases to 2% among those with some college education or less. The statistics continue to paint a grim picture. The National Student Clearinghouse reported that Black male undergraduate enrollment declined by 14.3% between March 2020 and March 2021. The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) recently stated that Black men have the lowest college completion rate, at 40%.About 27% of all Black U.S. adults aged 25 and older have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Of these, 16% earned a bachelor’s degree, and 11% hold an advanced degree. As of 2023, roughly one-third (32%) have completed some college but not earned a degree, and 30% have, at best, graduated from high school or earned an equivalent like a GED.

EP: 118 Trumps War or Israel War?

President Trump is defending his decision to start the war with Iran, saying in the Oval Office on Tuesday that there would have been a nuclear war without intervention, and that Iran "would have taken out many countries." Israel sent troops into Lebanon as the war expanded, and some of Iran's Gulf neighbors warned that Iran's retaliatory fire could draw them into the spreading conflict. The U.S. consulate in Dubai was struck by a drone. Americans are being advised to leave 14 countries in the region because of "serious safety risks," and the U.S. embassies in Beirut, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia are closed because of the conflict. Six U.S. troops have been killed. The Iranian Red Crescent reported that at least 787 people have been killed in Iran, but reports inside the country suggest the toll is likely in the thousands. The Pentagon released the names of four U.S. service members killed in an Iranian counterattack in Kuwait. Two other Americans have not yet been identified.

EP: 99 // Fate vs Destiny

Fate is the unavoidable, often external force that shapes what happens to you, while destiny is your purpose or potential, shaped by your choices and actions and leading to what you become, even if some fixed points (like death) are fated. Fate is about a prewritten outcome, often outside your control (e.g., being born into a situation); destiny is about your active journey, choices, and growth toward your highest self. Fate (The "What Happens")External & Unchangeable: A predetermined course set by outside forces (gods, the universe, circumstances).Passive: What is thrust upon you, the inevitable lot in life.Examples: Meeting someone by chance, experiencing a natural disaster, and the inevitability of death. Destiny (The "What You Become")Internal & Influenced: Your higher purpose or potential, achieved through your own will and decisions.Active: What you make of yourself; the sum of your possibilities and growth.Examples: Overcoming hardship to achieve greatness, fulfilling a calling, choosing your path. Key DistinctionThink of it as a journey: Fate might be the fixed destination (you'll die), but destiny is the various paths and choices (how you live, what you achieve) you take to get there. Fate is what will happen; destiny is what you do with what happens to you.
