EPS: 44: Los Angeles riots. Curfew enforced on Tuesday.
from Humanity Unplugged Podcast · host Jermaine McCrimmon
Anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles continued Tuesday for a fifth straight day. It comes amid the escalating tension between President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding the administration's deployment of National Guard troops and Marines. A federal judge in San Francisco denied a request by the state of California for an emergency order that would block the deployment of additional federalized National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles. However, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer has scheduled a hearing for Thursday afternoon regarding the state's request for a restraining order. Throughout the five tense days, cars have been set on fire, smoke bombs have been thrown, and pepper bullets have been fired off in multiple directions across downtown Los Angeles, Paramount, Westlake, and Santa Ana. Mayor Karen Bass has declared a local emergency and issued a curfew in the downtown LA area. The curfew will begin on Tuesday, June 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Bass said the curfew is expected to last for several days.
