Equipping Season: The Fullness of Christ - His Works

from CityReach Cumberland · host CityReach Cumberland

It is obvious that Jesus lived a supernatural lifestyle while on the earth, but it was not because He was God. His continual display of the miraculous was done as a man who lived in complete dependent on the Holy Spirit to provide us an example of what would still be possible for us today. In this concluding message on the fullness of Christ, you will understand how it is possible for each of us to fulfill the promise that Jesus made that those who believe in Him would do the same miraculous works that He did.

Well, it's so good. I asked the Lord. I didn't know I did what Ray and Crystal were gonna talk about today. That's always a little nerve-wracking But I also know that the same Holy Spirit that's in in them is in me and that God can orchestrate things and work them out for His good and His glory.

So I actually want to talk to you a lot about today really about what they talked about and That the things that they describe people being healed people being prayed for people being walking in the miraculous and experiencing the miraculous is not something that is Just relegated to third world countries or to other continents, but that it should be a regular part of our life our everyday life It should be a regular part of this church. It should be a regular part of your family life where you work and it should be what distinguishes us From the rest of the world and so today as we we kind of want to kind of wrap up The series I've been doing on the fullness of Christ and we looked at five different aspects of the fullness of Christ But really want to launch again our theme verses are Ephesians chapter four verses 11 through 13 And they said that God gave the the gifts to the church you gave the fivefold ministry gifts the apostle the prophet the evangelist The pastor and teacher for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry for the edification of the body of Christ Until we all come to the unity of the faith and the unity of the son knowledge of the son of God And then the measurement of that and what are we focusing on the measurement of maturity in the life of the believer is not one another But it's the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ and that Christ when he was on the earth You remember when Jesus came he he was God, but that he didn't function as God on the earth He always was God but when he came to earth he willingly set aside all of his His I don't want to say he gave up because he was always God, but he restricted himself It's probably a better word he restricted himself from from tapping into his divinity and he grew up as a man Just like us he took on flesh just like us he dealt with temptation just like us But he did it perfectly and then when he was 30 years old he was filled with the Holy Spirit for the next three and a half years He he demonstrated what a life looks like and what the potential is for us if we have a life that's sin free Which is taken care of the moment? You were made righteous And then what life can look like when you're filled with the Holy Spirit and powered by the Holy Spirit and he demonstrated those type of works for us and so When we looked at the various aspects of the fullness of Christ we started with the nature of Christ or the character of Christ which is love and Then we went to the grace of Christ and then we talked about the word of Christ last week We talked about the mind of Christ or his wisdom and this week We're gonna look at the works of Christ and so in looking at these five dimensions of the fullness of God everything as I said last Week everything has the foundation of love and you heard Ray talk about love just a few minutes ago because no matter what we do If we do it with the wrong motivation if we do it outside of the love of God, it's pointless. It's worthless Paul says you can give everything you own to the poor if you do it without love it It profits nothing you give your body to be burned it profits nothing if you do it without love if you have the gift of prophecy That you can understand all mysteries all revelations If you have the gift of faith that you can move mountains and you have love it It means nothing said you could speak with a tongue of men and angels You could be very eloquent you could speak otherworldly if I do it without love He said I'm just a good clanging gong like it's just noise and so that everything we do in life everything we do in ministry Has to have the foundation of the love of God When Jesus came the reason he came is because he loved us everything he did was because he loved us and so as we talk about Ministry as we talk about being full of Christ.

That's where it starts But but beyond love we need to understand grace we need to understand the grace of Christ or the gospel as we talk about them We have to understand the word of Christ that he is the word of God that he's the eternal word of God that he exists Outside of what's written in this book? This is a record of God, but the word of God Jesus Christ is eternal He was from the foundations of the earth and he'll be forever-lasting that the word of God defines for us What his will is and what his intentions are that the that the mind of Christ displays his wisdom that as I said last week He can he can guide you and lead you and give you creative ideas and understanding beyond what you intellectually would be possible And today we want to talk about the supernatural and talk about the works of Christ how that God two things I want to talk about today really the works of Christ talk about his power, but really there's two aspects of power There's two words really in the New Testament that define power So I'll give you the Greek word, but there's really no need to remember the Greek word But just help you to define him. So the first word for power is exusia, which means authority Authority is this or exusia is this it's the power to declare. It's the power to rule It's the power to command.

It's the power to make decisions or influence things. It's the power to act So authority is the power basically that's it's affected through speech. It's the power to rule command declare To actually decide influence and act it's all those things But there's also another power because because I can say a lot of things right? But if I don't have the actual power to back up what I'm saying, it's not really effective like if I held up a If I pulled out a police badge and held it up But I'm not a policeman or if I don't carry a gun to back up the badge I'm carrying It's really not like I might say something I might portray something But I've got to have the actual power to back it up and the word other power We want to look at today's dunamis, which is really the where we get the word dynamite It's the miracle working power of God.

It's it's the power to do miracles and so that when we talk about the works of Christ I want you to see we're gonna look at a passage in John 14 We're gonna look at how Jesus even when he was on the earth even though he was God and he was man that He operated in complete dependence on his father that he could not do anything Without the father in him through the agency of the Holy Spirit that was also in him and in the same way that Jesus at that Standard the same way we live today so the things that you hear Ray talking about the things you hear Crystal talking about They're not just for certain believers like they're not just for people that have certain giftings Everything they talked about today is available to every single person that sits here today There's nobody here that can't walk in and do and experience the exact same things that they talked about so the works of Christ Jesus said this Let's go back. We're kind of way ahead there. Let's go back to John I want to start out with John chapter 14 verse 12 Jesus says this he says most assuredly so when Jesus says most assuredly It means other translations say truly truly as if he needs a double truly right? But if so I want you to get this this is Jesus talking to my words are white and blue But if you've had red letter Bible these are in red so in context Philip had just asked Jesus He said Jesus show us the father and it will be sufficient for us and John 14 verse 8 and Jesus You know he says this he says Philip jeez have I been with you this long like like really We've been ministering for three and a half years if you have seen me You've seen the father Why would you say show us the father because here's when Jesus was on the earth?

Everything that Jesus did was the exact replica of the nature and character of his father So that if you ever have a distorted view of God or if you ever question what God's will or what God thinks about something look at the life of Jesus? It's the easiest answer that I can give you because Jesus perfectly represented the heart of the father He said if you've seen me if you've experienced me if you've heard me if you've observed me Then by seeing me then you've seen the father and so he goes on in verse then we're gonna skip out to verse 12 He says this he says truly truly or most assuredly I say to you he who does what how many people in here believe in Jesus? I'm gonna ask you later. Hopefully every hand is He who believes in me?

Who is that now? He's not just talking to the 12 apostles He's talking to us today when we see that Jesus says this I can know for certainty that this is the will of God Unfortunately, there's a lot of non believing believers See like I believe in Jesus, but only to a point I believe in Jesus for my salvation And that's all I need but see the church is full of believers. They're actually non believing believers like they believe to a point Jesus says he that believes in me so if you believe in Jesus, this is for you Right every hand went up now. I don't know that every now.

I was like, I don't know maybe I should put me up He who believes in me the works that I do He will do also the same works that Jesus did now This is not just talking about nice things like we might call random acts of kindness in context This is talking about miracle signs and wonders when you get to John 15 when Jesus talks about fruit in the next chapter fruit is not Godly character that is a fruit of the spirit But the fruit in John 15 is actually talking about supernatural works that he's defining here in John 14 He says the works that I do the supernatural miracle signs and wonders that I do if you believe in me These should be evident in your life, too You can do the same works that I do but then a lot of people get hung up on the next phrase and it says what and greater works than these So everybody's like, wow, what's the greater works? Well, let's just today's focus is the same works because what happens is we get hung up on the greater works And we miss the same works Greater works are really this he says because I go to my father so think about it like this before Jesus when he was on the earth He was the only person in the world at that time that had the Holy Spirit living in him No one else could have the Holy Spirit living in them because he hadn't gone to the cross and resurrected yet And they couldn't be made new so at that time Jesus could only minister to one person one group He could preach in one church at a time He couldn't minister in Galilee and then in Samaria and Jericho and Damascus simultaneously So one of the greater works the fact that he went to the father when he went to the father was when he poured out the Holy Spirit And now the Holy Spirit can live in every believer around the globe simultaneously And there's the first aspect of that is there's actually an efficiency in ministry that we can be more efficient because we can do simultaneous ministry globally that Jesus could only do one person one group one city at a time So there's there's a greater aspect as far as the efficiency But also I believe that truly the greatest miracle of all is the miracle of salvation that up until Jesus every person Jesus healed was unsaved Every person that Jesus healed eventually died that everything he did all those people not a single one of those people were ever actually born again The new birth that he talks about to Nicodemus and John 3 it couldn't happen until he went to the cross it couldn't happen until he resurrected But once he resurrected now we get to not only do the same works He did but we get to participate in sharing the gospel and sing the greatest miracle of all time come to pass Which is when somebody goes from being the old them to the new them goes from death Yes from death to life Thank you like to actually have resurrection on the inside of you to become a new creation Jesus says so if you believe in me the things that I do you should be doing also See the dependence he has on the father here He we're gonna read this. Let's look let's go ahead and read the first two verses It says do you not believe that I'm in the father and the father in me the words? I speak to you.

I do not speak on my own authority But the father who dwells in me does the works believe me. I'm in the father the father in me or else believe me for the sake of the works Himself He says look you can believe for one or two reasons He says at the end of the day I want you to believe in me You can believe in me because of the words or you can believe in me because of what the works first well Or verse 11 says believe me for what I say or believe me because the works secular works themselves See at the end of the day he wants you to believe in him now I believe that when you believe in what he says apart from what he did There's a greater blessing in that because think about on the day of resurrection when doubting Thomas comes into the room And he says Thomas Camarri says stretch out your finger and put it here give your hand and put it here and Thomas says My Lord and my God and he says Thomas you believe because you have seen but blessed are those who believe having not seen So when you can believe just on the basis of what God says I believe there's a greater blessing for you in that But Jesus said the end of the day I want you to believe either believe what I say or believe the works And what do you want you to believe it look? I'm in the Father the Father's in me the words that I speak go to the next slide the words that I speak unto you I do not speak what on my own authority So right away Jesus is telling you the words that I say I'm saying them with authority But it's been delegated to me from somebody else somebody told me what to say and therefore I'm saying exactly what I've been authorized to say So who did the speaking Jesus did he says the words I speak the words? I say I don't say them on my own authority, but they're authorized However, but who does the works the father?

Are you guys awake today? Do I need to read it for you? I need a little feedback the father right Jesus spoke the words But the father did the works He says I spoke what I've been authorized to speak But somebody else is actually the power behind doing what I'm speaking and it's the father in me Well, we know from other scripture the father in him was through the Holy Spirit that the Holy Spirit was in Jesus That was the father in him and see even Jesus talking to his disciples He's letting them know hey I have to speak and then there's another power at work that backs me up and brings the past the thing that I've been authorized to speak That's the father in me. There's an interdependence that Jesus everything he did was utterly dependent on the father Who do you think authorized Jesus to speak?

The father did the father actually told him what to speak Jesus said this and John was it I'm sorry John 5 verse or 1249 He says I've not spoken on my own authority the exact same thing He says this he says the things I speak or what the father has commanded me to speak so that Jesus himself on the earth spoke With authorized authority it was delegated to him like the father told him what to say he gave him the bounds of what to say And where to say it and he said it he said also he goes the things I do are the things that I see my father doing So that Jesus had this dependence completely on the father not just for what he did but also for what he said So he lived in complete dependence And so if Jesus needed to depend on the father Feel like I'm getting a message in tongues back here Somebody interpret that for me Right, I'm gonna put you on the spot If Jesus had to depend on the father for what he did What do you think we need to do? Like if he was our example of how to live that kind of life a supernatural life and he could only do it Through the dependence on his father through the Holy Spirit how much more? Like why do we think that we could actually do anything on our own? Because he needed the father see when when Jesus let's go the next slide I'm gonna have to like go through these little quicker than normal today when she when the disciples were on the earth They operated think of this.

It's like Jesus was the one who was anointed right? Jesus was the one that had the power Peter says this in Acts 10 as he's preaching in Cornelius house He says how God anointed Jesus Christ of Nazareth speaking of his humanity how God anointed Jesus Christ of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power So here's a connection the Holy Spirit and power how he knowed Jesus Christ and Nazareth the Holy Spirit and power who went about doing good and Healing all that were oppressed of the devil because God was with him It was the presence of God in him and with him the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon him that brought the power in his life That allowed him to go around do good and heal every single person oppressed of the devil And so while Jesus is on the earth he has that anointing the apostles don't but he gives them a taste of it in Luke chapter 9 When he sends them out it's almost as if Jesus has an umbrella Right and he says here's the umbrella of my anointing and you guys can walk under this while I'm here And while you're with me physically you can tap into the anointing on my life I've experienced this myself other places where certain people carry a particular anointing and when I come into covenant and minister with them I actually minister into their anointing I've experienced it and this is what the disciples do He says I'm gonna give you power Dunamous and authority exusia over all the power of the over demons the cure disease and he sent them to preach the gospel and to heal the sick But that was temporary right that was only while Jesus was here So while he's on the earth they could walk around and carry an umbrella They're carrying the umbrella of his anointing and then the next chapter Luke 10 says Jesus sent out another 70 or 72 Depending on which version of the Bible you have and so they were able to operate under that anointing but when Jesus leaves Guess what goes with him? The anointing went with him and so things are about to change this was temporary So that's why he tells him and act look at the next slide and John 15 He says I'm the vine near the branches whoever binds me and I and him it's it see the bears much fruit from apart from me He's like I'm going away. I'm going away My anointing's going with me things are gonna change when I was here physically there were limitations But you could tap into my anointing you could walk under that umbrella, but I'm going home I'm going to the father But I'm gonna give you a new plan.

You're still gonna be able to do the same things that I did and here's how it happened next slide He says this most assuredly I say to you he that believes in me the works I do he will do also and greater works than these he will do because I go to my father see going to his father was a big deal because you remember that you remember that um John chapter 7 verses 37 to 39 He says on that last day that great day of the feast Jesus stood and cried with a loud voice if any man thirst Let him come to me and drink right and it says out of his Intermost being or out of his heart will flow what rivers of living water and then John adds his commentary verse 39 He says this this he spoke of the spirit Because the spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified And so until Jesus went to the father was exalted to the right hand of the father and glorified at that point now He can pour out his spirit on all flesh See it's important to know that the that that we think well I wouldn't Jesus have just poured out his spirit while he was there Wouldn't that make sense like hey? We're here Let me let me give it to you now See the job of the Holy Spirit to conform me to the image of Jesus and if Jesus poured out his Holy Spirit while he was on earth Then we would have been conformed to the image of a suffering servant instead of the image of an exalted Christ The suffering servant is not your image. You're made in the image of the exalted Christ So until he's glorified he cannot pour out his spirit to make you into the person that he intends you to be That's why John says this he says that it says that there's no fear in the day of judgment because as he is So are we in this world? How is he right now?

He's glorified exalted at the right hand of the father? That's so he has to wait until he's glorified Peter even speaks about this in Acts 2 it says it said that that Jesus now exalted has now poured out his spirit and So it seems like well why are you withholding it because if I give it to you now It's good. You're gonna be conformed to the wrong image and I need to die I need to resurrect and I need to to ascend and I need to be glorified and once I'm glorified now I can pour out the Holy Spirit now you're ready to receive what I have for you He says and whatever you ask in my name now that I will do that the father may be glorified in the Sun If you ask anything in my name, I'll do it. Let's get and read through these if you love me keep my commandments I'll pray the Father he will give you another helper or comforter that he may abide with you forever the spirit of truth in the world cannot receive because it Neither sees him nor knows him, but you know him for he dwells with you and will be in you They should have known the Holy Spirit because he was present in Jesus and the fact that Jesus was with them the Holy Spirit was also with him Look at this.

Let's go next slide. Let me shrink down the phrases for you if you ask anything in My name Whatever you ask in my name that I will do if you ask anything the next verse says in my name. I will Do it? Who's doing the asking?

We are who's doing the doing see that? If you ask anything in my name Jesus says I'll do it now. How many when you pray you say in Jesus name amen? Why do we do that?

It's like TTY TTYL talk to you later is it like it's like our little sign off? So you got to realize that when you put something in Jesus name That you're actually aligning with everything that his character is everything that he's paid for everything that is his will and you're lining up perfectly With that because he's authorized you to do it See it's like it's like if Jesus gives you a check and this check is tied to his account and he went ahead and signed it Now if that account if Jesus is account is at M&T Bank Am I gonna be able to cash that at first United? No, I have a signed check for what's in his account and I need to tap into his account in order to make a withdrawal See I can't sign his name to something that's not in his account I can't sign a check for something he didn't pay for like I might say I want to marry Whitney in Jesus name Like that's not gonna happen because I'm already married to Kristen Jesus didn't pay for infidelity That's not part of the atonement. I'm gonna pray in Jesus name that I win the lottery I've tried it.

It doesn't work Like the lottery wasn't part of the atonement See I think there's a lot of Christians today trying to cash checks that Jesus didn't write and at the same time Be negligent to make withdrawals for things that he did So remember you're trying to write checks on stuff that aren't in his account Meanwhile I'm forgetting to make withdrawals for things that are like he has provided everything you'll ever need in that account Sin sickness disease depression anxiety fear addiction all those things are in the account You can make a withdrawal from that because he's authorized you and you do it in his name like his name is on there Paul says this in Philippians 2 9 it says that God exalted Jesus and has given him a name that's above every name You've heard that verse before that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow of those in heaven of those on earth And of those under the earth so that Jesus's name is superior in all three realms Angelic realm the human realm the demonic realm all bow to the name of Jesus every name if you can put a name to it If you can attach us a name to it a label to it his name is higher than that name His name is the name above all names Paul says that he's seated above all principality all power might and minion not only in this age But also in the one to come so not only is it all three realms, but it's for all eternity That yesterday today and forever like his name is the name and that's the name that you've been authorized to sign in That's the name. He's given you the power of attorney to use. I was recently applying a couple people a few Thursday nights ago I was recently applying for a new franchise for a business And I submitted an account That's a joint account that Kristen and I have I had to show you got to show proof of income You got to show you have enough money in the bank to buy the business or the manufacturer says you know We're not gonna approve you why would they so I sent in proof of funds? But on the proof of funds it was a joint account and so they called me and said Mr.

Timbrook, I need to get a permission slip from your wife that it's okay for you to use those funds I'm like what? They're like she's on the account She needs to authorize it and so I had to get a letter from my wife saying I Kristen Timbrook here I give Frederick Timbrook permission to use X funds from one two three four five six at whatever the account number what See Jesus has authorized you to draw from the account that he's already paid for like he paid for it Says whatever you ask whatever you require whatever you demand is another word for that that word ask It means to require it means to demand it means to inquire it means to crave and it means to pray What did Jesus say in more life says what so ever things you ask? When you pray believe that you receive them and you'll have them see I can believe that I'll receive them because I'm not the one Doing the doing I'm the one doing the what asking and I'm asking in the name that's above every name that I've been authorized to use If you ask anything in my name, I'll do it and here's how now now It's not it is Jesus doing it, but he's doing it through whom the Holy Spirit See he that's why he says how is like Jesus is not physically here But what he has given us is a replica of himself that is coming to live in us and fill us so when Jesus so if he says If you ask I'll do it how's he gonna do it? Here's what he says and I will pray the Father and he will give you what?

another Comforter see another there's two words in the Greek for another one is heteros It means another one of a different kind it would be like if I had This stool this is a chair, right and would you say this is a chair right? These are two chairs This is another one of a different kind, but they're both chairs what Jesus says I'm gonna give you the word is allos which means another one of the same kind which means I'm gonna give you an Identical match to the one that's leading I'm gonna send another one that's identically the same and so that if Jesus is the comforter He says I'm gonna pray the Father and send you another comforter. That's identical to me in nature character power Everything and so that's how he's gonna enforce it. He says you got to ask But I'm gonna do the work and I'm gonna do it by asking the Father once I'm glorified to send the Holy Spirit And the Holy Spirit you should already know because you've already been with me And he's gonna live in you and then later in acts he uses the term he'll come upon you which means to to fill you Asking in his name is the authority part the Holy Spirit coming and performing it is the power part Jesus said this we'll just go you can write these down Matthew 28 at his ascension So his disciples remember said that the season was changing for them.

They had the umbrella, but now the umbrella goes So on the day Jesus ascended 40 days after his resurrection he ascends and on the day he ascends He releases the authority to them. He gives them authority on the day of ascension, but then he tells them hey Authority's great, but you still need what power? He's gonna give you the authority today, but I want you to wait in the city until I release power and the power comes through the Holy Spirit That came ten days later on the day of Pentecost so on the sentient day He says all authority has been given to me go therefore and make disciples of all nations He says a little bit difference recorded in the book of Mark chapter 16 He says this he says go into all the world preach the gospel to every creature and these signs shall follow those who believe in my name Right these signs will follow that word. It doesn't just mean that oh here They're tagging along they're kind of like here and there the word follow means to accompany at all times It literally look it up It means to accompany to be by your side at all times So this isn't something that we do here there now and then once in a while these signs these things that set us apart Should be part of your life at all times if you believe in the power of his name in my name They shout what cast out demons?

They shall speak with new tongues they shall pick up serpents and if they drink anything deadly It shall by no means harm them so there's divine protection built into that says that they will those that believe in my name Will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover those are all the things that come with authority But he says I want you to wait because power is coming right? It doesn't do any good to have authority if we don't have power and that's what he tells him in Luke 24 He says this 24 49 he says but I'm sending the promise of the father upon you But I want you to wait in the city until you're closed until you're in dude with power in act chapter 180 says essentially the same thing You're probably familiar with this it says but you shall receive what power after that the Holy Spirit has come upon you And you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem Judea Samaria into the other most parts of the world You need authority you need the name of Jesus He's authorized you to use it, but you also need power that power comes from the encounter the filling that you have with the Holy Spirit So think of it like this how many got out of bed this morning? I see about ten hands it didn't go up not a trick question When you got out of bed where the lights on are off If you sleep with the lights on there's another service for you later. We're gonna cast out fear No, you got up you woke up the lights are off How many picked up the phone and called Potomac Edison and asked Potomac Edison to turn the lights on?

Nobody right what'd you do? You just went over to the wall Foot switch right? See it's very similar the power is Generated where the power is generated in some power plant right some power plant that who knows who owns it? Let's just say excuse me.

Let's say Potomac Edison owns it. What is generated? That's the power source as long as the bill is paid Okay, there's limitations here as long as the bills pay but but spiritually the bills paid Right Jesus paid the bill if the bills paid Potomac Edison will transmit power to your house If you got up in the morning see all you have to do to turn on the light is what flip the switch see flipping the switch Is taking authority over the power that exists in your house? See if I call if I call Potomac Edison's like they're like, yeah, what's your problem?

My legs are off my bedroom. I want you to come turn them on What what are they gonna do? If they're either gonna laugh or they're gonna hang up on you or both But it's the same thing believers do to God When we call God and ask him to do something that he's already paid for and then authorized us to do The other part's true too If you don't have a connection with God If you've never accepted Jesus and the Holy Spirit doesn't live in you and you've never been filled with Holy Spirit You could go over and flip that switch all day long. You got authority But guess what no power because you didn't receive the payment that had been made on your behalf See it's not one or the other to be effective to do the works of Jesus that works that he did You need the authority that he gave on the day that he ascended but you need resurrection power that he released on the day He was glorified it takes both God is the power source.

Let's go back. Let's read that but he's placed his power inside of us. He's authorized us to use it See so many times I think probably the two biggest reasons we have unanswered prayer is Because one we're asking God to do something that he's already done It's like I've already done that. What do you want me to do already connected the power or?

We asked God to do something he's commissioned us to do Asking God to do something he's already done or asking him to do something that he's already given me Authority and the Commission to do so when Jesus was on the earth He didn't question God's desire to do things. What did he say at the tomb of Lazarus? I thank you father that you always hear me like he was confident in it This is the confidence that we have if we ask anything according to his will I eat in his name according to his word We know that he hears us and if he hears us we have the petitions desired of him That's the confidence we have in him, but it comes from authority and it comes from power Now if you give me just a few minutes, I want to wrap up I just want to read a couple things from the book acts you guys go with that all right So I just want to show you how this flows so You remember he's telling him hey things are gonna change acts to they get filled with all these spirit They the 120 they begin speaking in tongues. It draws a big crowd Peter preaches 3,000 people get saved So that people were drawn to the supernatural event But the result of it is that 3,000 gets saved and then in the next chapter Peter and John are going up to the the temple And there's a guy laying there that's been lame.

We find out later in the book act He was there 40 he was laying more than 40 years He was in this condition over 40 years and he was laying from birth And so every day they put him in front of the temple and he would just beg for money and he Peter and John walking up They see the guy the guy looks at them and thinks he's gonna give him money and Peter and John said no look at us And he says silver and gold I don't have that but what I have I give you what did Peter and John have they had authority and they had power What I have I give you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise and walk and it says he grabbed him by the right hand pulled him up and immediately Strength went to his feet and his ankles and said the guy leaped up jump and ran around the church now What happens when somebody gets healed like that all of a sudden a crowd comes right and that happened here people were like oh my gosh That's that's the lane guy 40 years he laid there and these two guys fishermen That didn't go to Bible school. They didn't go to seminary The one had just denied Jesus a few weeks earlier But they had authority and they had power and he released it into a situation and so the crowd comes it says the crowd marveled like they were like What is this next slide it says so when Peter saw it he responded to the people men of Israel Why do you marvel at this or why do you look at gently as though by our own? Remember who does the work we speak in his name and he does it so Peter says don't look at me like it was my Doonamist it wasn't my power it wasn't even my godliness It wasn't even because I'm not good of a guy Because frankly I'm just a guy that's just a nod Jesus two months ago It had nothing to do with that it was everything he did for me It was his authority he gave for me and it was his power that he put in me He says that we made this man walk in verse 16 It says his name speaking of Jesus through faith in his name has made this man strong whom you now see and know Yes, the faith which comes through him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all right away He says it wasn't my power it wasn't my godliness It was the power of Jesus Christ and faith in the name of Jesus They gave this guy perfect soundness that means complete health like head to toe health is what that means if you look up that word And then of course then the church leaders they don't like this right They said at the time you had the high priest describes the elders now they come and like okay What's going on so Peter preaches to this group and two thousand people get saved for as a result is miracle because it's said after this They believed in there was then about five thousand there used to be three so nobody two thousand people get saved because of this So then they come they throw them in jail for the night and then they bring them out the next day and they're questioning them So this is what they say and when they had set them in the midst They said by what power and what name have you done this so I think it interesting that even the church elders at the time Although they didn't believe in Jesus knew the two ingredients They said what power? Dunamis and what name authority did you do this work?

It says Peter filled all these spirits said to them let it be known to you and to all the people of Israel that by the say it name of Jesus Christ whom you crucified whom God Authority and resurrection power the two things right there He says the name of Jesus and whom God raised from the dead by him this man stands before you hold And said they went on and said and they charged them that they could no longer preach and teach in that name Of course, you know they didn't listen to that because that was a source they had power But they also had authority see if you're here today and you've been saved If you accepted Jesus that the Holy Spirit lives in you you have authority if you've received the Holy Spirit the baptism in the Holy Spirit That it's done by Jesus himself. John says this it says that I baptized with water But there's one mightier than I whose shoes I'm not worthy to tie he's coming after me and will baptize you with the Holy Spirit And with fire so it's it's Jesus is the one that immerses us into the power of the Holy Spirit And so without both you're gonna live this Christian life That's up and down and sideways and in every which way when you really have a chance in the opportunity He paid for that you can live and do the exact same works that Jesus did And maybe even if you've been the reason I picked ax for is because I like it because they these were the guys were filled in an axe to But after a course of a day or two they needed to fill it again Like it's not a one-time filling salvation a one-time event filling is ongoing like you need that the rest of your life You need to be filled every day You need to be full of him every day and it says at the end of this it says this is their prayer And we'll close with this it says Lord look on their threats and grant your servants that with all boldness They may speak your word notice they're speaking right they're speaking How are they speaking the word look at that it says by stretching your hand to heal whose hand is stretching? Gods whose mouth is speaking theirs? He says that we may speak the word with boldness by stretching your hand to heal that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy servant Jesus They went right back acknowledge God we need your power We need your boldness so that we can speak and when we speak we believe that you're gonna back it up with your hand to do miracle signs and wonders And verse 31 says this and when they prayed the place where they were assembled was shaken and they were all filled the Holy Spirit And they spoke the word of God with boldness The same guys that were filled in and acts to are now filled again in acts for because it's ongoing You need the power of the Holy Spirit every single day
