Eradicating the Blue Catfish

from Dieter Melhorn Fishing · host DIETER MELHORN

Fishermen in Virginia are fighting to protect the blue catfish, but if fisheries managers have their way they would like to see the blue catfish eradicated from Virginia coastal water. Eastern Virginia is known for its trophy blue catfish on the James River.  Virginia is also home to the current world record blue catfish.  Even with the popularity of this sport fish, many people do not want this invasive species of catfish around.  Commercial fishermen along the Virginia blame declining fish populations on the voracious appetite of the expanding blue catfish population. In this podcast I discuss some of the many issues facing trophy catfish anglers and the other stakeholders who live there.
