När Ernst Idla kom till Sverige 1944 som flykting från Estland tog han med sig en helt ny syn på rörelse och träning. Han skapade en metod som bröt med den stela linggymnastiken och blev enormt inflytelserik. I centrum stod Idlaflickorna. De var den disciplinerade, men lekfulla elitgruppen som med sina röda bollar och musikaliska program tog Sverige med storm. Idlaflickorna kom att sätta spår i både vardagsmotion och pedagogik.
