Jonathan K. Crane is the Raymond F. Schinazi Scholar of Bioethics and Jewish Thought at Emory University’s Center for Ethics. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine, Emory School of Medicine, and an Associate Professor of Religion, Emory College.

He earned a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Wheaton College in Massachusetts, a M.A. in international peace studies from the University of Notre Dame, a M.Phil. in Gandhian thought from Gujarat Vidyapith in India, a M.A. in Hebrew Literature and rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, and a Ph.D. in religion from the University of Toronto.  The co-author of Ahimsa: The Way to Peace, co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Jewish Ethics and Morality, author of Narratives and Jewish Bioethics, editor of Beastly Morality: Animals as Ethical Agents, author of Eating Ethically: Religion and Science for a Better Diet, and editor of Shades: Race with Jewish Ethics (forthcoming), he is the founder and co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Jewish Ethics.  A past president of the The Society of Jewish Ethics, he frequently speaks and publishes broadly on Judaism, ethics and bioethics, comparative religious ethics, narrative ethics, eating, environmental and animal ethics, among other topics.  He was awarded an honorary degree from Wheaton College.
