Eunice Muñoz nasceu a 30 de julho de 1928, na Amareleja, Baixo Alentejo, no seio de uma família de actores. Aos cinco anos já realizava pequenos números musicais na companhia teatral da família, a Troupe Carmo. Estreou-se no Teatro Nacional com a peça Vendaval, aos 13 anos, e recorda desse momento “o terror de ver o pano de boca a subir, uma imagem que se eterniza”, segundo disse recentemente numa entrevista ao Diário de Notícias. Entrou no Conservatório aos 14 anos, e saiu aos 17 com uma média de 18 valores. Foi nessa altura que começou a ler poesia. Considerada umas das maiores actrizes portuguesas de sempre - a neta Lídia chegou a dizer que a “avó não é uma actriz, é o teatro” -, prefere manter-se afastada dos epítetos e gosta que lhe chamem Eunice, apenas. A representação acompanha-a desde a adolescência, as leituras públicas de poesia começaram mais tarde. Tinha 40 anos quando se estreou a dizer poesia em público na Livraria Bucholz, e foi nessa altura que percebeu a importância que as palavras dos poetas representavam para si. Seguiram-se inúmeros recitais, leituras e discos, em que Eunice deu voz aos poetas de que mais gostava.
