When our Best Efforts aren’t Enough.

Enough for God.In Exodus 18, Moses spends an entire day serving God’s people from morning until evening. By every human standard, it was a successful day. Yet Jethro’s surprising verdict is, “What you are doing is not good.” This passage exposes something many of us quietly carry: the exhausting belief that if we just worked harder, served more, or wasted less time, we might finally be enough.But the gospel tells a different story. Jesus didn’t come to help us finish our unfinished lists—He came to finish the work we never could. On the cross He declared, “It is finished,” offering us the approval, rest, and identity we have spent our lives trying to earn.
