Faith Audio Arsenal | Already Wearing It

There are some battles you don’t prepare for when they arrive.You prepare before they arrive.That’s one of the things that struck me while studying the little 25-verse powerhouse we call Jude.Jude tells believers to:“contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.”— Jude 3, ESVContend.That’s not a particularly passive word.But as I kept reading, I realized Jude wasn’t handing Christians permission to become argumentative, angry, or obnoxious in the name of defending the truth.Quite the opposite.Build yourself up in the faith.Pray in the Holy Spirit.Remain in God’s love.Show mercy to those who doubt.Reach for those heading toward the fire.Know the truth.Live the truth.And when necessary, make the case for the truth.That brought me back—again—to the Armor of God.I’ve been trying to think about the armor differently lately.I don’t want it to be spiritual emergency equipment.Something I remember to put on only after I realize I’m in a battle.I want the armor to become so much a part of everyday discipleship that putting it on becomes as reflexive as getting dressed in the morning.Belt of Truth: Know the truth.Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Carry the gospel.Shield of Faith: Trust God with the outcome.Wear them when you’re studying Scripture.Wear them when somebody challenges what you believe.Wear them when you’re trying to help someone who’s wandering.Wear them when you’re tempted to respond in anger.Wear them when you plant a seed and nothing seems to happen.Because the middle of the battle is a lousy time to discover you left your armor in the closet.That’s where this week’s Faith Audio Arsenal anthem came from.It’s called Already Wearing It.And unlike some of our heavier Battle List entries, this one surprised me.The music is simpler. Smoother. Catchier.
