Let me remind you of the Kalam Causal argument. Even atheists agree the universe had a BEGINNING caused by what is called the Big Bang. Therefore, by the Law of Causality, there is a CAUSE for the universe OUTSIDE of the universe itself. Since matter, space, and time came into being WITH the universe, the cause cannot have these qualities. Therefore, the cause must be immaterial or spirit, spaceless or omnipresent, and timeless or eternal. These are some of the ATTRIBUTES usually attributed to God. Indeed I have extended Kalam’s argument to prove that the FIRST CAUSE for the universe, in fact, is the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, otherwise known as Yahweh in the Hebrew tongue. (3) God, being INFINITE will undoubtedly have infinitely many attributes, but most any theological books I have read list approximately 20 defining attributes of God. The advantage of having such a list is that if we encounter anyone with those qualities, then that person must be God. Jesus does that. So we know He is God. (4) Related to Turek’s question 3, “Are miracles possible?” The answer is since the Creator God of the Bible exists, and since He is the One responsible for the greatest miracle of all, namely, the creation of the universe, then any LESSER MIRACLE like turning water into wine, Jesus walking on water, or calming the storm with a word presents no problem at all. (5) Related to question 4: Is the NT historically reliable? (6) Turek’s question 4 is not saying the NT is an inspired, infallible, or inerrant collection of documents — only that it is historically reliable more or less like the writings of other ancient historical documents (e. g., the works of Aristotle, Herodotus, Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, Pliny the Elder, or Pliny the Younger). (7) “The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable?” by F. F. Bruce. (8) “The Historical Reliability of the Gospels, Second Edition” by Craig L. Blomberg. (8) Okay, it is ONE THING to CLAIM the Bible is divinely inspired, but still ANOTHER THING to PROVE it with any reasonable CERTAINTY. If we were receive a true message from God, it would be REASONABLE to expect it to pass REASONABLE TESTS of RELIABILITY. This is episode 272.
