Family Matters: Kristi McVee on keeping our kids safe

On this episode of Family Matters, Simon talks with Australian child safety advocate and former Western Australia police detective Kristy McVee about child sexual exploitation and the tactics of those involved in grooming. While a challenging topic, it is important for parents to understand what is happening and be better informed as to how to protect their children. Kristi shares how she entered policing as a young mother, trained as a specialist child interviewer to gather children’s evidence for court. She then moved into child sexual abuse investigations for a decade before leaving in 2020 to educate parents who often told her they didn’t know the red flags around exploitation.
